Ice fishing camera mods/ideas
« on: Mar 01, 2017, 10:52 AM »
I have an underwater camera with a 50' cord that i like to use every once in a while. My sonar is my go to and is a lot lighter and easier to use. I like to switch it up here interfere And go with my camera, especially if i am going to a place i am very familiar with and/or will be fishing on bottom or if the fish have been finicky i can see what certain presentations might get them to react the most. Anyways, the hassle in it is the very long cord, the unit itself(setting on ice and bending over to check out the screen so i dont have the camera jumping around underwater), getting the camera to point and stay in the direction i want, and not disrupting the bottom to much when i want to see really low.
Any ideas/tips/mods/advice for any of these problem would be greatly appreciated.

Yeap MoPod all the way. But FYI for any MoPod users, I've had the cable arm come unscrewed, so I removed it and put some LokTite on the threads.

Make and model and/or pictures of your camera would be helpful . The aqua Vu  MoPod is nice ...also try and rig your camera either pointing down or up @ 45 deg angle ...can accomplish that with some zip ties and sounder/clip on weights if need be onto the cable and/or camera housing . Marcum made the Camera Compass but think they are discontinued ...but can be duplicated using a grip cleat and a bucket lid/piece of plywood.

Once you have the camera direction figured out, a clothes pin on the shaft will point you in the right way.

Couldn't find an effective way to have both camera and flasher in same place so decided to DIY one. Camera cable is on a reel which also houses all the camera electronics and 9AH ION battery pack. Its wireless to my Husky bag which houses all the displays. Bottom display is the camera, top is the FishHunger Pro Flasher. Camera is a HD micro night vision 170 deg. mounted between the two lights which goes underwater. Still in development but all the parts seem to work. Being 170 deg. view, I should be able to see my wheelhouse 5 holes at one time with camera in the 6th hole.  Do have a remote rotator to turn the camera to look 360 deg's - white platform cable reel sitting on. Anyone within 150 ft. with a smart phone, tablet etc. can view the camera at it runs on WiFi. Also has an AV RCA video connection to connect to the Wheelhouse

Here is a video on my camera mod. Original wireless panner ran my Vexilar FishPhone. This is my DIY camera in action. Still have a few more mods, trying another camera and adding WiFi to connect camera to Smart Phone and Tablets.

Do you have any plans for your reel or how you built it? materials? I also have the fish phone and was wanting to do something like this. It makes sense to reel down the camera instead of unwrapping it.
The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.
