On the facebook forum two guys fell through out there yesterday not far from shore. One of them took a long time to surface, but both made it out.

Which part?  Some places along shore drop quick and other stay shallow for half a mile. They fall into the pressure crack?

That ice looked relatively solid on satellite out away from shore...took advice on the board though and decided on winni instead of champ...

Took a drive around the bay down to Hathaway. Forget it. Open water as far as I can see south of the point. Shoreline is softwater for about 70 yards out. Not sure what the eastern shore is like but it looks like we are coming back from this one.

I wonder who's going to try the Bay today. I'm driving by it after work.

Hathaway point cove is okay but lots of large open water holes at the reef.
I got blown off at alburg this morning, got the pop up anchors in but wind was so strong couldn't get the hubs to stay in long enough to get the shanty setup...face up and went home to retriev the flip over and went to Cohen park and fished.
8" black ice and locked up at shore but didn't go over the pressure crack because it is 4" soft white ice and was spongy when I drilled a test hole.
Caught a 1/4 pail of small to mediu yellow perch.
Wind was brutal and called it after a few hours.
Buddy heater couldn't keep up with the cold and wind...5F at noon and wind was steady 23MPH out of the north with gusts to 30

You got out on the ice at the cove?  There was 5 feet of open water there on Sunday along the shore. Looks like it skimmed over but it looked super thin today.

I walked out about 30' from shore and drilled a hole to measure, but didn't fish it.
