Hog Island/Cambells/ Miss Bay Update 2/24/17
« on: Feb 24, 2017, 11:37 AM »
Went out to just scope the damage today. No time to fish but I poked a few holes and assessed the ice for those looking to head north to fish. Hog island looks surprisingly good, the access isnt beat up and is just a little soft. Still 8-10" of ice with about 2" of soft ice on top. Same for the Cambells. Miss bay from Shipyard has 12"-14" inches of ice but the access is falling apart mostly due to 4 wheel traffic. The main road is pretty rough and wet. Wheelers and side by sides are out there today in Goose and Gander. Gilbert pulled his last campers off todayThe Miss river has opened up from Swanton dam almost down to Dead Creek and moving at a good clip which will not be good if we get the rain they say we are suppose to. Flood warnings are in effect this weekend.

Thanks for the update.  Doesn't sound too bad, except that there could be fishable ice left next week but we'll need a boat to get to it since the lake is going to rise!  The Winooski (in the Essex area) is open and running pretty good, too.

Lamoille was about to open up at highbridge where it dumps into Arrowhead, I'll check it tonight on way home. Bet the lower part of the river is open by now past the dam.

Lower Lamoille is flowing freely. But there is 9-12" of ice north of Sandbar right now.

Where's the closest area to park to access campbell's by foot?

West Swanton bridge. It's a 4.1 mile walk! To be serious; there is no access close to Campbell's unless you are one of the lucky ones (like me).
