It may help to check with a pet store that sells tropicals.

Careful to NOT over feed them nor leave flake around on/in the water to ferment.     ;)2

Depends on what kind of minnows. For niagaras get an extra bucket, fill it with water and let it stand for a couple hours so the chlorine will evaporate. Put the minnows in fresh water. Put a bubbler in there on low and they will live a long time. Change it out once a day. I wouldn't feed them. Fat heads just change the water everyday and they'll live a long time. Keep in garage so they are cool. If its really cold maybe in the basement.

In the summer I put mine in a Styrofoam bucket and put them in the garage fridge. Amazing how long they will live in there

A few seasons ago I kept roughly 100 fatheads alive in a 2 gallon bucket for about 3 months just by putting them in the fridge and changing 50% of the water every couple days with the coldest water possible. Never even thought about feeding them.

Sudden changes in temperature (shock) is what kills most minnows.

I use gold fish food but maybe a little every two weeks.  If your going to use them up in a month don't even bother to feed them.

Agree with 1moslab...don't feed...keep water cold!  Food = poop = unclean water = death of minnow.

Cold water is a must, and if you do feed them (whatever you choose) make sure to change the water frequently.

I would keep up to 3 dozen med shiners in a 5 gallon bucket with de-chlorinated water (water that has been standing for at least a day with an aquarium filter running) and if I fed them (crushed up goldfish flakes) I would change 1/2 the water the next day.

If you feed the fish you will have to deal with left over food that can spoil the water and then fish waste (ammonia) that can sicken all the fish.

That is why feeding them requires more water changes. I also keep an aquarium filter (rated for a 10-15 gal tank) running for as long as there are fish left.
