Just returned from Hell Creek, I would stay off main lake.
Was getting soft Friday PM.
Bay was OK but not great, shore line melting, used ramps to get on ice Sat am.
Won't  last long at the temps over there.

Looks like his auger is down there too. That ice looks like about two inches thick. Why would anyone not check it first ?

Nice catch.....I didn't even notice the auger. Was to focused on the SxS. Ice does look real thin. Maybe it's just the picture. Pretty sure I wouldn't have even been walking on that tho !!

Lots of gas pockets around Duck Creek.
I won't fish it even if good ice around it.
Hope he got it out easy enough and retrieved his stuff also.
There was a couple there Wed,  Thurs, Fri that drove into open water 3 times that I know of, sorry to say the best thing to teach them would be if they  completely
sank it and had to pay dearly to get it out.
Don't wish that on anyone though.
Stay safe and use caution.

With all this talk of the ice disappearing it makes me wonder how long it will be before the boats are launching and does Fort Peck shut down for angling during the spawn? Here in Alberta we are also having vehicles falling through as well but on  most lakes you can almost bottom out your auger.

We came across them in the dark. We were fishing maybe a mile west of them. They were fishing a long point that had a couple of 4' deep humps. That's where they went through.
We fished until just after dark and we were riding single file with a good 80 yards between us and I was in the lead. We had been skirting around guys fishing there since Thursday, so when I saw their lights I just thought it was more guys fishing in the dark, and was concentrating on where I was going. When I looked back to make sure everyone was there, they were way back, so I turned around and went back slowly. As I got closer I could see that there were headlights just under the ice, so knew someone had gone down. One of our guys had pulled up and parked right between the two UTV's. He was over a deeper saddle between the two humps and was fine! There were two side by sides down on their sides sitting on the bottom. I showed them the contours on my Navionics app, and they had no idea it was that shallow. We loaded them up and helped them get in touch with someone who could help them get their machines out, and gave them a ride back to the ramp. At that point they had pretty much all of their gear down there. When we went back in the daylight we could see all of the stuff down there. It turned out that they were able to get them out fairly easily in just a few hours. When I saw them towed back I went over and talked to them to see how they had gotten it done and make sure everything was good. Here's some pictures.
This is a picture of both holes. You can see their tracks going up to each hole on the side and they just tipped over sideways. The interesting thing was that they had put one down and went back to their cabin and come back out and put the second one down!
This is what the ice looked like.

Key Word there KARMA. Doesn't even have 2 be a big fish. I catch enough of those on my own. Do 2 others as you would want done 2 you. If your a prick that's how people are gunna treat you. Bend over backwards for people, people will do the same for you. sometimes you get hosed, then comes that word Karma again. Karma will get them back somewhere sometime.

Thanks guys. I don't have it within me to leave someone in need out there though. I don't care if they appreciate it or not. That's for me. The guys we worked for hours pulling their RAZR out in 2015 were kind of schmucks, but so what. Like STD said I think about how I would feel if I went down and watched somebody drive right on by and not stop. That would suck!

Well done SRA and STD, your generosity and selflessness are inspiring.  I see far to little of the "Do unto others" mentality among the students I teach, and it's heartening to see it still exists.  If you're ever in Eureka, I'll buy ya'll a beer, even if the folks you help didn't!
