Attaching BB6061 to St Croix carbon handle
« on: Feb 17, 2017, 09:11 PM »
I recently purchased the St Croix Avid Jigging and an Avid Glass ice rods. I would like to put BB6061 reels on them and am looking for opinions on the best way to attach/seat/connect the reels with the rods. Tape, melting wraps, the small bands...etc

I saw a you tube video with a guy using a St Croix rod and a reel.  He just used hockey tape for the connection.  Simple, and it worked.  Guys channel is 330 Maniac.  He does well with the panfish.

I have the Avid Jigging rods with spinning reels.  I just use black electrical tape.  Hockey tape would probably give you more grip.

Ok, I did a bit more research and have decided I will use tape as I don't want to deal with indents from bands. As for tape... tommy tape, silicone tape, rescue tape, or masking tape covered with 3m electrical tape?

problem with electrical tape, especially cheap stuff, if get's brittle in the cold and when it warms, it gets nasty gooy.

I just got the same rods from the St. Croix factory 3 weeks ago, I used four castration rings. I've been out 15 times since and not a problem. And they wont leave nasty residue.

the self adhesive tapes like tommy tape work fine.

I ended up using 1 layer of athletic/hockey tape to give the reel something to grip on to, then the clear silicone tape.  It seems to be holding very well.  Time will tell.
