I'm taking a first timer out jigging this Sat. I haven't been out jigging yet this year myself. Any suggestions as where to take him for a nice experience? Hopefully within an hour of Albany. For perch or whatever. Ty.

i break out the tipups if i take a rookie with me. popping flags is a thrill. usually i just jig. try thompson lake in berne. there was plenty of ice(13") last time i was there 2 weeks ago. i will probably hit thompson myself this weekend.see you on the ice.

Mariaville Lake is my go to when bringing out newcomers, kids or when I just want lots of easy action. Close to Albany, easy access and bait available right in the lakeside store.

Collins lake in scotia, ballston lake, warner lake in Albany county, burden lake in rennsalear county.

I also forgot Mayfield lake, Saratoga lake, Mohawk river back water, and grafton lakes in grafton state park.

Decided to take him to Harris Bay. Good decision. Hooked up, by accident, with Perchslayer and he put us on the fish. Almost limited out the first time ever.
