thanks, yeah it's a power suck for sure but for the fishing I do, I like it nice and bright and you can't beat the price.  I bring along a couple of spare batteries and can just run it to my flasher in a pinch.

Very cool.

Im curious if you could get away with using less lights so u get more runtime.

Very neat idea .

Any one know what the 2835 makes reference too ?

I had bought some LED lights from Northern Bright Lites some years back and installed them in  my flip over ...used them last week for the first time in several season ...cant beat them LEDs .

Hardwater,

Here is what the 2835 refers to.

2835 is the LED diode chip.  SMD (surface mount diode) 2835 Chips look very much like 3528 chips, but they are 4.6 times brighter. They're smaller than the 5050 chips (2.8mm x 3.5mm), but at 18 LEDs per foot they are 4.6 times brighter.   Their Lumen output per foot rivals that of most household fluorescent tubes.

Here is the set I purchased.    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HSF66JO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Yes absolutely.  you can basically trim them to any length you want.   Cut it in half and have 2 lights.

i like it! it's portable.
thanks for sharing!
IS now has the DTro lamp!
one could make it completely portable too. with it's own power source inside the jar. i think they run as low as 9 volts.

i just velcro 4 feet to each of the two upper bars in my flip and in pop up i weave a length of it from one corner to the other so the light is spread out more and less shadowing.

what's the kitty's name?

add some thing like one of these to get more than 4 hours out it. some of these are slow to show up. if you use the prime sellers, they are 2 day ship.

It's pretty tough to define "standard" anymore.  I would guess most of them are in the 7-9ah range, so probably 3.5-5 hours run time.

I might have to backpeddle a bit on this here....

The description of the item I purchased says 24watts total which I described in the video and which I just assumed I had.    Upon further inspection the 2835 diode which it says it is,  consumes .2w per unit.  That would be 60W total and a huge difference in power consumption.   If it truly is 60 watts, I'm only going to get about 1-2 hours on this light.    I have a feeling what I really have is the 3528 diode.  One or the other is wrong.  Either they sold it to me wrong, or the tech specs on their listing is wrong.

how about a similar size/style container but instead find a clear container and fasten the LEDS to the inside....anything gained...protection... look more like a lightbulb??? Can a guy go to his local lighting store and buy these LED  strips or do they have to be bought online? thanks for sharing. Very ingenious..thats why i like IS

Don't rely on math when typically figuring power consumption in any electrical circuit. The best way is to connect an ammeter in series with the load. Ammeters can be had for under 10 dollars. Unless you want a super accurate  digital one. But for these purposes an analog ammeter would give you an accurate idea of how long a run time you can reasonably expect.

Just rigged leds for night fishing on my 16' Lund, for the amount of lights I installed. I was pleasantly surprised when the whole conglomeration only pulled slightly less than 3 amps. Which hooked to a deep cycle marine battery will easily last the entire night.

First run on the ice last night with the lights went well.    Had the light going for 4 hours and didn't have any noticeable dimming.   I got a response from the seller about the power consumption and was told that the 2835 diodes actually come in different sizes and the strip I have is indeed 24watts.

Here are the exact lights I purchased and with prime got them in less than 2 days.

thanks, yeah I plan on running it through a mulitmeter to get an accurate number.   I'm guessing it's going to be around 2 amps, maybe a bit less based on the run time I got with it last night.
