Salmon Falls Creek Res. Steelhead?
« on: Feb 08, 2017, 04:03 PM »
I noticed that they stock a lot of steelhead in the res.  Do these fish grow bigger than the rainbows?  Has anyone targeted them?  Do these landlocked steelhead just get caught as rainbows?

All of them that I have caught there are caught just the same as any rainbow, they do seem to get a little bigger. I haven't targeted them but have caught quite a few in the ice while targeting trout.

A good read with a bit of insight into this question:     Woods-N-Waters article.

I looked at the 2016 stocking reports of Idaho Fish & Game and noticed steelhead, rainbows and cut-bows all in the mix.   There was also half a million walleye planted.

It would be nice to have a few kamloop triploid hybrid, very fast growing, sterile and great fighter.

A steelhead that doesn't go to the ocean is a rainbow trout. Genetically the same fish. They may grow a little faster because the ones that are stocked there are hybrids...
Tight Lines,
