I have probably put 30,000 on my snowmobiles since 1995. A few years exceeding 2,000 miles with ease. At my age, I often sit and thank "whoever" it is for keeping me safe. It can be dangerous. Prayers going out for these guys and their loved ones!

How many avid snowmobilers wear flotation and ice picks when they know they'll end up on a frozen lake?
Might be time for guys to spread the good word in that community.

Your right J ....    This sled had 2 sets of picks in its trunk.... Lot of good they did him in there... :-\
We pulled this out of 8 feet of water 50 yards from shore on a spring ice out fishing trip... 2007 yamaha nitro..  Oh ya, this was the spring of 2007.. :o

By my count that is 8 snowmobile fatalities in NY so far, and those are just the ones I can think of. Bad deal!!

There were actually 2 other sleds within 15 yards of this one...We only pulled the one to get the information of the owner..     Yes they all got out...   Found out they were a family from NJ and were told not to exit the lake that way...   We were there 2 1/2 weeks after it happened in our boats...

Was this sled considered salvageable or did you have to return it to the owner?

We told the ranger where it was before we left.. All he said was thanks..   When I got home I called everyone to find out if we could salvage them and I was told I could get a ticket just for moving it  because it would release the fluids..  They have been in the water for 3 weeks you dont think the fluids already leaked out?   Go figure... :-\   So the other two were left in the water and that one sat on the shore some 7 miles from the boat launch.....

Seems like they would be happy that it was out of the water and if anyone should have gotten a fine it should be the owner.
