Rubber bands for ice reels?
« on: Feb 05, 2017, 04:53 PM »
Where can I get those bands that they use to put a reel on an ice rod. They are fat bands that hold the reel on the rod. Thanks! Do they have a name?

I'll bet New Englanders use lobster bands, cooked for smaller rods.
(and yes, I know peeps that think they can taste a band in the pot...)
Trust me, when the Zamboni driver says "You won't catch fish through that hole", he knows of what he speaks.

I used to get the rubber bands that you heat up. Now I just use electrical tape. Works better and a lot cheaper.

I use electric tape for poles without seats, but wouldn't electric supply stores have shrink tubes that would work?  I am sure they have them in various sizes.

Go to coldsnap.com reel attachment kits

Good old hockey tape!  Cheap, works great and does not mess up your expensive cork handle on rod.

Keep in mind, if you use heat shrink tubing, you cannot do a reel replacement quickly on the ice as you can using the bands
Now is the time for all good men and women to engage in the sport of ice fishing

Your local farm store. Ask for castration bands.        I got the bands and said wow how am I going to stretch these bad boys on to the pole. I was able to stretch them over the handle end of a pair of small pliers and slip and roll it right up the handle. Thanks for the idea! they will work great! Glad I'm not a farm animal!   :P

You can use my pair of expanding ring pliers.  I don't need them for a couple of weeks til the new calves arrive.

I use Hair bands that come in different colors.  I think I bought the last batch at Wegmans.
