In Sussex county we lost all ice last week and today I spudded 1 1/2 this am on a lake in Andover and 1 inch on Cranberry and Jefferson  . The high sun is making all ice gray and we have rain coming in next Wednesday .I only go out on 4 + inches it's over for NJ

No such thing as safe ice many will tell you.

IF you looking to ice fish North Jersey will be a place to go.

I have 3 buddies out on 4 to 6 inches of ice right now at Monskville or Skunskville depending on how you make it out there. But on shallow side not in deeper waters

IF you planning on going out SPUD SPUD SPUD all the way and if possible go with a buddy. I wouldn't trust any ice that we currently will have.

I be out tomorrow and sunday somewhere that's for sure.

4-6" on Monksville! You're kidding me. Where? On the back end by Greenwood lake tpk? I drive by it every day. The main body is open and the back end by the stumps looks like it's got slush floating on top of it!

I checked some of the early ice spots today. Took a good whack with the spud bar and it was 1 or 2 to get through. Maybe tomorrow.

Found at least 4 bodies of water with safe ice on Saturday in NNJ.  Jigged a few gills through black ice in Morris County.  Spud, picks, vest as always.

If you look than you shall find.

Yes shorelines had almost no ice. But further up and away ice was solid enough to support a wild boar that I am.

Regardless fishing reports below:

Saturday: Budd Lake - sketchy as hell. Ice was from 1.5 to 2.5 inches and only in certain areas. 9 people were out throughout the whole day. Only 4 total fish were landed.

Sunday: Hopatcong State Park - once again ice was 1.5 to 2 by shoreline and growing thicker further out. Now Sunday was a fun day with multiple of fish landed throughout the day. Perch, crappie and bluegills were jigged out while tip ups provided occasional fun with pickerels and largemouth bass. Overall was an excellent day to be out.

Ice season still continues for some at least.

Be safe.

Don't ask. As long as group did not stay at the same spot together we were alright. Skiddish but alright.

My main issue was with an ice being so clear, you could see my fat ass from mile underwater. No wonder I had 0 flags all day.

Side note: all ice adventures above were done with a group of hard water fanatics with enough of safety equipment to refloat a battleship or in my case a wild boar. Please do not venture out alone. Spud Spud and Spud away. Be prepared for anything regardless of ice thickness. And please always be safe.

Andre
