Sketchy ice conditions. Slushy and weak in spots. The trails should be alright. Especially if we get some snow tomorrow
Fishing is like playing at Carnegie Hall, when your good your good. But do you know how to get to Carnegie Hall? PRACTICE!

Fished about 7a-5p both last Friday and Saturday.  Friday we fished behind Farm Island, and Saturday we went to the toe of the boot with sleds and a side by side.  10-12 inches of ice anywhere we traveled.  The only slush we came across was near shore at the toe of the boot.  We had a group of 6 and we caught a lot of fish both days no monsters, but a bunch of nice brookies and salmon.  Of course can't keep the salmon right now but still a blast to catch.  Caught some togue and cusk as well but nothing big.  Went for a ride Saturday night only about 60 miles.  Half of it was unbearable as it was all moguls.  Granted it was at the end of the day but I always think the trails around Moosehead suck until you get away from the lake a bit, but I am used to riding in the county and it doesn't get better than that.  Good Luck

Also fished Friday and Saturday around Sugar Island.  Ice conditions were very good...12-14" with no slush.  Few inches of snow on top of crusty ice.  Friday fished well for us but Saturday was slow.  Stayed on Roach and traveled the trails.  Mint in the morning but got chewed up from the derby/snowmobile traffic.  Trails are great up by Kokadjo.

Tons of snow up there, but there is some wash outs on trails, as the ground really hasn't froze in many spots. The lake is brilliant traveling and I saw no pressure ridges anywhere on the lake. The lake was in the best shape I have seen in a really long time. Plenty of ice anywhere we went and we went out far and wide.

15"-19" of ice in the Moose Island area.  Easy traveling on the lake with sled or ATV, just be careful around any protruding rocks.  3-4 ft of snow on the ground with a hard ice layer near the top.

How much snow you guys got on the ice up there after the recent storm?  I'll be up there near Deer Island this weekend.  Trying to determine if I'm going to need skis or snowshoes to get out there easily.

I called Wilson's on Tuesday, the guy there told me there was 2-3' of snow on top of the ice with more incoming.  I'm heading up there tomorrow morning, bringing a shovel, my xc skis and a pulk for my jet sled...gonna be working for the fish this weekend.

When I left Sunday the lake was getting wet.
1-3 ft of snow.  Plenty of ice.
