Valpo lakes?
« on: Jan 30, 2017, 08:52 AM »
Think I'll take a ride and see what these lakes are looking like today. Small ponds on 73rd. ave.  in Merrillville are frozen up. Anyone else been checking the ice?    Manny

Loomis front bay only had 1/2" on the edges.  Flint still had pockets of open water. Long still had open water off the launch. This was all obsevered on Saturday afternoon.

I checked Three Rivers in lake station, it is still wide open as of 3:pm.  However Grand Blvd lake is completely skimmed over.

2-2-17 , I looked at Long Lake and Loomis Lake today. Both looked unsafe for ice fishing .All shores are soft.     Long had open water at both north and south ends ,there is some thin ice by ramp.   Also thanks to the bozos who threw the big boulders on the ice by the ramp. Can't wait to nail one of those with my prop or trailer wheel.

Loomis had thin ice in the front bay , open water way out by the channel coming from back bay.  We are going to need below freezing temps for awhile for any chance for it to be safe again.

Be sure to SPUD your way out if you do go out to test the ice.  BE SMART!!!  AND SAFE!!!

If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Was looking around loomis yesterday. Almost 100% open water. Even the front bay.

Short and long term forecast do not look like any ice making weather is coming.  Possibly northern Mi or WI if you want hard water.  Spent a little time in the flat bottom this weekend water temps are still around freezing just don't see it happening.

Indiana is done for the year. For a while there was ice to fish if you knew where to go but we are definitely done now. It's going to be almost 70 next week.

Water temps are still pretty cold, fishing will be slow.  Too bad you dont like trout fishing its been picking up, but it is not for everyone for sure.  Good luck maybe the rains coming will warm the waters a little and Pike will pickup.

I've heard this was supposed to happen for probably 7 or so years now. This winter I once again heard that it was supposed to happen soon. My guess is that it will never happen.
