Ice cleats
« on: Jan 15, 2017, 08:29 PM »
I know this topic has been posted before but I needed to visit it again. I have a pair of Mickie Mouse boots and want to get a new set of ice cleats. Will the Kahtoola microspikes fit over these boots?
Thanks
JG

Not sure about those. I to have the Mickey boots, XL Korkers is what I use. XL Stabalicers is what my brother uses. No complaints for either one in 5yrs.

When I had Kahtoolas the XL size fit over my size 12 XW Mickeys. Took a little effort but they fit.

I am size 12 and my Katoolas fit great on my big insulated rubbers , I suggest you put the spikes on first then the boots unless you are very flexible Toe in first ..

Definitely go with some sort of spikes. The chain style was worthless on the clear ice this weekend.

Not much snow in this area last few years. As a result of walking across concrete lots the spikes on the cleats I have used for the last few years are pretty worn. Tips are flat. Might as well not had them on. Didn't do anything on the bare ice this weekend. But if we still have ice after the coming week of temps in the mid 40's I have some new ones on the way!

I have been using Hillsounds the last couple years. Super awesome spikes, super strong. Used them around my construction site one day, really beat them up, they really hold up. Better than my Kahtoolas for sure.

I looked at this brand and they were alittle aggressive for what I use cleats for. They did look like they would hold up on a construction site.

They are not "to aggressive", they bite the ice real nice.

I've been using the Stablicers for several years and I really like them. My knees are wearing out though and the Icers are getting very difficult to put on. I'm looking for some good creepers that are easy to put on.

Phoenix- I fractured my left knee in Sept. So i know what you mean. I just put my creepers on at the house. Slip on my gym shoes and drive to the lake. Then slip out of them right into my boots. Plus feet stay warmer because they are not sweating in them during the drive.

I've had the YakTrax XTR's for a few years now. I love them. Some others have had issues with them falling apart but I have not. I only put them on when I get on the ice. I don't wear them in the parking lot. Only on the ice.

Anybody try these?  The price is very appealing

Ocean State Job Lot has the same cleats, Thunder Bay @ $19.99.  Have a pair of the job lot cleats, similar in construction to the Kahtoola.

Well, I decided on the LL Bean Traction cleats with the Boa Closure system. There is an LL Bean store close to my house so I could actually see them before I bought them. Not to mention their return policy of no questions asked. I got the L/XL which fit nicely over my size ten mickie mouse boots. The boa system looks like it will work well keeping the cleats on my boots. We will see, a report will follow. Thanks for all of the information guys.

Hey Rather,
I actually looked at the stream cleats. They have the same boa adjustment system as the micro cleats and I think would work better than the old corkers in a stream. I felt that the micro cleats would work better especially if there is snow on the ice. I had both of my hips replaced in 2015 and didn't want to take any unnecessary chances.

Yeah I am done with those strap on korkers...overpriced and unpredictable...nothin g like winter stream fishing and one decided to slip off 3feet under water!...duct tape works but also creates some issues...when I get a few bucks plan and buying the llbean boa and try them for ice and stream

Got my XL Kahtoolas. Size 12 insulated boots. was a real chore to get them on the boot. Kind of bummed. I was hoping for a slip on slip off deal, but looks like I will just have to leave them on.Good news there is no way they are going to inadvertently slip off while I am using them on the ice!
