Went for a ride in eastern CT hoping to find good ice for Sunday. I stopped at JT'S fly to get some shiners just in case I found some decent ice. Tried the north end of Mashapaug. It was a mess. Open water and skim ice. Nothing close to good.
So I went to the boat launch to check it out. Went past Bigelow and there was people fishing . I saw someone jigging in the Chanel. I grabbed the chip bar and went out to chat. He was on about 4 in. I saw a guy a little farther out setting up. So I decided to grab my gear give it a try for a couple.
Was set up by 4:00 pm. Got 5 flags. Caught 2 walleye at 17" and 19". Was off the ice by 11:15. Not a bad scouting trip. Ice was from 5 to 3 1/2 in. If you go out check the whole way and be careful.
