Hows the ice at your fishing spot?
« on: Jan 13, 2017, 10:44 AM »
Maybe this will help everyone trying to venture out this weekend. Hows the ice looking at your local spot if you've been there after this warm wet weather we've had?

I'm planning on heading to Missisquoi Bay tomorrow morning.  I'll report on conditions after I'm set up.  Has anyone else been out from Highgate Springs?  How's the bite?

Will be at Missisquoi as well......being optimistic that the ice is still good.  Was 8-10" this past sunday so I am assuming it will be good......shore might be rough so I may bring a plank!

Any update would be nice for those that have to travel.  Certainly not looking for anyone's specific spot   ;D

Thanks in advance!

I was hoping to put a 4 wheeler on at the West Swanton bridge Sunday and run north to Campbells Bay area.  Anybody know it that is travel worthy?

Just got home from jigging at Indian Brook, there was still a good, noisy, 9 inches. Fishing was slow.

Saw wheelers go by and they stayed closer to shore as they went north towards Campbell.......that was on sun......if that helps any?

I have a half acre pond at a local public park that is only 2.5 to 3 feet deep and is chock full of baby perch with the occasional smallmouth that I am almost positive has ice. Might give it a shot after studying for a little bit. I've been itching to get out on the ice and try out my new SI Predator bibs!! Hopefully I won't have to put the Surefloat to the test though.  ;)

My favorite spots are all still fully open to boat traffic. :(

May the fish be with you.

With the amount of current that goes through that area i would be scared to travel that until we get another good cold stretch! Man hard to believe that area even has ice still!

Put on at the west swanton bridge and ran north on wheelers.  7" of good ice all the way to Campbells bay.  However, there was a crack that opened up close to the first small island out from the swamp on Church road.  Stay at least 300' from the shore in that area.  Fishing was slow for pike.  We did get a 36" we let go and kept a few 5 pounder for the table.  Perch fishing was very slow as well.

Checked today and there is now enough ice at my favorite places to prevent boat launching, but not enough to walk on, or do anything more than bounce rocks off of.  ???

Hope it either breaks up or freezes up enough to walk to where the fish are.
May the fish be with you.

Fern Lake has 10 inches of relatively clear black ice.

Dunmore is still locked up, I heard there is 2 to 3 inches on the north half. There is a major pressure crack splitting up the north half running from the north shore all the way to the brook.

Tomorrow I'm on Lake Champlain in a boat.

Hit a couple spots the last couple days.  Missisquoi had 12.  The Gut had 5-7.  Keelers had 4-5 past the anchor ice.(didn't venture very far).
