I was out yesterday on nearly 9 inches of ice and had the lake  to myself most of the early afternoon. Don't count us out yet. Doesn't look pretty in the forecast but the lakes that froze good and early made great ice.. Hell if I have to get my boat Un winterized I will, but don't think it's happening any time soon.

I was really surprised that I found a lake that had good edges. Another lake in same County had tons of open water. One other lake nearby was a mayebe. Spudded out about 20 yards and started getting on plates that looked like overlapping pieces that froze from open water and walked back.. I was just surprised that their were not more people out on the lakes with good ice.

Though I really want to fish badly and I know my young partner is going to put the screws to me to get out somewhere, all the rain around here in NW Indiana has got me spooked. I am too old and too fat to push the envelope on dicey ice conditions, (IMHO).  I live in Cedar Lake and half the 700+ acre lake is open & shorelines are gone or going fast. IF you go this weekend be safe out there!! Me I will wait for better conditions this si only the second week of January after all.

Do you happen to know if any of the other lakes in on that chain faired well keeping ice?
