Coming to nebraska
« on: Jan 10, 2017, 06:47 AM »
My 11 year old son ice dying to go ice fishing but we can't get safe enough ice here in se kansas for me to take him.  Am in contact with a guide but he is booked for the dates we have free to come.  He is checking with a buddy to see if he is able to take us.  If he isn't able to guide us do you think it would be worth trying it on our own?  I was thinking of maybe lake wanahoo or maybe somewhere smaller.  Would love to catch some yellow perch,  never had a chance to catch them before.  Thanks in advance for any information, it is greatly appreciated.

Wanahoo would be a good choice but not for perch. Have you ice fished before or have required gear?

What "Sandbilly" said.  You could sure DYI at Wanahoo.

If you want yellow perch, you are going to have to travel to northern parts of Nebraska.

Thanks for the info guys.  I haven't gotten to icefish for a few years but have rods and reels, tackle, auger, tip ups, shelter, and electronics.

If no guide is available I'm sure some of the good folks that fish in the valentine area would be glad to help. Or for that matter let me know if I can help.

Wanahoo is a good place to fish for kids. Anywhere in the trees you won't have a problem catching panfish. If you make it up here let me know Im usually fishing.
