Sloppy perch fishing
« on: Jan 09, 2017, 04:38 PM »
Everything is wet.  Just got back.  Brutal winds.  We tried to find a spot with some shelter...had little success.  There were a lot of perch, but not the biggest, 8-9" again.  Walked a long way on water covered ice - to the narrows.

Here is a quick video of my son trying to show how he can catch a perch in 30 seconds.  Two swings and misses:

Ice was 12" where we fished.  Here are some shots of the crew and water.  On the first picture, our backpacks and small white dog are parked on the dry rock behind.

Now, for the perch cleaning.  Lots on the smaller side given my son was wanting to go home.  Water in the boots.  Me too.  Got probably 6 browns, 1 sucker, and 60+ perch in a couple of hours.

Nice bunch of perch, sucks about the W.  Great to get your son out on the ice with you, even if it cut the outing a little short.  A shorter day fishing with family or friends can be much more rewarding than a long day on the ice alone!
Flags up, gentlemen!!!

Shoe, nice pics and video, good job on thinning the herd some. Were you able to walk the ice from the dam?

Yes, we walked on ice from the dam.  I didn't check the thickness there; but there was a worn path across the deep.  Getting on/off the ice at the dam made me a little nervous since it appeared to be thinning near the edges.  But, looks are sometimes deceiving.  As you know, I ain't little and it held for me no problem.  Go get em and do some damage.  My freezer is stocked with perch fillets for now.

Looks can be deceiving...that is my friend Regan, who was lagging behind but still catching fish.  Unfortunately, my son doesn't like fishing...it isn't as entertaining as video games, I guess.  The fishing picked up as the morning went on.  My son got into it by the end, when he wanted me to video him fishing.

Good luck Ronco, hope to see you out there.

I guess I didn't think about who took the photo!

My kids are similar in that they would play video games all day if I let them.

They say they don't want to go out on the ice but once they are there they always have a blast. Especially since I got the Quickfish 3 and they can go warm up, drink hot chocolate and eat snacks.
