I'm in and have been up there 4 times already this winter only to ride plenty of snow and I have fished Whitney 2 times in March before  it was very good fishing and the fish have been a lot bigger the last year's during the summer,it should be a great trip.Where is Jody's  in Evanston.

Hey icejunkieb I have a couple questions. How was it getting some holes drilled. Did you dig down to the ice and cut your holes? Was there much overflow? or did you just drill from the level you were standing on? Was it very slushy on the lake? TIA

It's been a few years but good snow years we just raised the handle on our augers and drilled might have to clear away some snow off the top layer it was not slouchy on top at all .ice was probably 16 then 3 feet of snow on top but it was packed not hard to drill .

Sounds good, I figured the snow would settle down quite a bit. I have heard of pretty slushy conditions on the lakes up there but it was not something I seen 1st hand

It was really warm the day we were up there and had all the deep slush on the lake... Seen 70 degrees on the thermometer at the warming hut nearby the lake up there that day... The way things are looking we will hopefully be fine this year... J

Another question for those that have been to whitney on the ice. Measuring the distance on google maps it appears to be 5-6 miles to RD 032 & 081 from the parking lot and then another 5-6 miles following the roads to the lake. Once you get off the groomed trail on Hwy. 150 is it a fairly traveled trail to whitney? Is anyone in the group going familiar with the area enough to know which direction to go off the hwy to the lake?

Yes I'm know it like the back of my hand and it's groomed to the warming hut then only about 1 1/2 to 2 miles ungroomed but well riden  road should be packed . It's looking like weather is going to be good.

Very nice icejunkieb. It's looking like me, icecutterion & possibly fishon1 will be going. It's still going to be a last minute decision as we may have something else we might need to attend if it falls on saturday. Definately will be a great trip, looking forward to it and like you said the weather should be fantastic

Might be a good idea to bring a two way radio if you have some as with any big group makes it easier to stay in contact while riding in to fish .

Good idea on the radios, I'll bring mine... Elkhunter and I made our travel plans last night, and so it looks like the two of us will be there.  Still trying to decide between taking minimal gear for a lightweight trip vs taking everything... Hopefully I come up with the right mix of gear so I have what I need but not too much to pull easy... Excited and ready to do this... Later J

I think 6:30 a slightly better meeting time at Jody’s in Evanston since they don’t open until 6:00 AM.  Plus, I don’t need to get up too early.  From Utah going east on I-80, go to Exit 6 (3rd Evanston exit) and get off.  Turn left at the stop sign and go about .4 of a mile and it will be on your right.  As of this morning, I have the following list of folks: Me (dubob), BFTSkunkedAgain, wyoguy2, Utahguy (maybe his bride), Icejunkieb, Elkhunter1834, Eskimoman012, Muskyon46 (maybe), Icecutterion (maybe), & Fishon1 (maybe).  If everybody shows up, that will be 11.

If you have any questions or info to pass on, call me at 801-549-8199.  Any questions?

No more maybe's here, all 3 of us are in  was hoping to maybe knock the brook trout off my species list but going back thru stocking reports to 2007 they have only put in bows, tigers and cuts. It's all good though, I'll take those

My wife won't be joining us.  What time is sun up?  Don't want to lose to much morning fishing time eating at a restaurant. I always find my best luck is between 8-11.  Looking forward to it!!
Still learning...

Ya it's only 30 minutes from Evanston I'm ready to go. The other times I've gone up there it really didn't have a bad time to fish they bit furiously  till we had enough and called it a day .
