So, how many rods do you carry?
« on: Jan 04, 2017, 10:19 PM »
I fish mostly for Bluegill and Crappie and it dawned on me that for the longest time I fished with two rods. Now I carry six! Plus I have two more that get little use.

I've evolved just the opposite.  Use to take 5-6 rods but now 2.   Flying lighter.

I take 3.

A TUCR Bullwhip for 4mm-5mm tungsten jigs. A TUCR Precision Noodle for 3mm tungsten jigs & ice flies. And a quick tip style rod I built for a "one size fits all" rod for medium sized spoons, rippin' raps, and small minnows. I'd like a rod for pike but that's what tip-ups are for.

Usually 5. I keep two 28" UL jigging rods rigged up identically with 2 lb. in case I get broke off I can get back down the hole quick. Then I have a 30" with 3 lb.  I use for spoons, jigging raps, chubby darters, etc. Then I have a medium action with 6lb. in case I get into some walleyes or bigger fish. And I keep an el cheapo 26" with 4 lb. on it in case of emergency or someone I'm fishing with needs a rod.

2 noodle rods for pannies, 1 heavier noodle for spoons, 1 deadstick rod, and 1 st croix legend with an inline for super sensitive bites in less than 15' of water.

Good question.  Whenever I take 2, I want 4-6.  Whenever I take 4+, I get them all tangled together and wish I had only brought 2.  It's a vicious circle.

3 two for jigging in the shack 1 for hole hopping. Not always the same three. It depends where I am going.

I'm a 5 rod guy.  2 light poles with 2 LB test.  I take two because sometimes the tips break in transport and I pre tie my lures so I usually have a small jig and a spoon on there.  I have 2 medium rods with 4 LB test.  Same set up.  I bring 1 heavy rod just in case I get in to any northern or walleye on the camera or flasher.  Usually 6-8 LB test depend on the year and what my plans are.  I'm going to Devils lake this year in February so it has 10 LB test this year.

If it's just me, probably 3 to 5. Couple inline with good spring bobbers for light stuff, couple spinning for other. My wife is usually along too, so our normal haul is more like 5 to 8 rods....almost all in one bag.

Usually 3. One is always a schooley reel, they are always dependable. Like Oldbear says, I keep trying to travel lighter.

I don't know for sure, but I've heard not. Wouldn't do any good unless they put some regs on them anyway. Last time they put the saugeyes in there, people were hauling them out at 10-12 inches. Idiots.

Six. Four spinning and two inlines. All prerigged in bright light at home because it's too hard to tie 3 and 4 pound line with my bad eyes ...

I go with four:
Heavy, Medium and light spinning setup and then a squeaker reel with a spring bobber - I love fishing with it....there is nothing quite like the click click click of the spring bobber.

Depends on where I'm going and what species I might fish for.  Normally carry a 6 pack rod tube for rods in my trap.  Will swap out depending on what I think I'll need.  Bluegill & crappie I'll take 3 bullwhips with black Betty's and 3 others typically spinning with actions that go up to something stout enough for jignraps. If I might encounter eyes or bass or ??? heavier fish I will throw in another 2 rod carrier with some heavy duty equipment.  I like to be prepared for anything that might swim my way!   ;)  Of course my old handle on another web site was, "Tackle Junkie" so you can guess I'm way over loaded!!

I bring 2-3 most of the time. Fortunately my eyesight hasn't gotten to the point where tying a quick knot on the ice is toone much of a pain....yet.

Usually I have 2 noodle rods for jigs, and 2 spoon rods.  Sometimes I have a minnow rod along, if I'm targeting crappies or eyes.  If I'm going for strictly gills, I just bring 3.

4-6 depending on where I'm fishing. More for tournament fishing, less if for fun. Always have at least 2 palm rods as well.

See you on the frozen pond.......Mike
