Walleye and Nice Perch
« on: Jan 03, 2017, 11:48 AM »
Found some great walleye fishing, along with perch in the same lake.  Why go anywhere else?

Ended the day with 3 keeper walleye 16-21 inches, and 2 keeper perch 10.5-11.5 inches.  Threw back some largemouths (15") and smaller (9'') crappie.  A good time was had by all.  The fish were all very healthy and tasted delicious!

A pretty girl holding up a pretty fish will put a smile on my face every time. That's nice fishing there. You're no rookie.
We're born, we live for a while, and then we die.  Sounds like a good reason to go ice fishing.

Looks like a good day. How thick was the ice?? Edges ok enough to get on? Every lake I've been checking out is different from the next. Some wide open; others locked up but only 4" of sketch ice.

I'd say the majority of the ice was 8 inches.  Ranged from 6-9 across the lake, with the edges pulling back daily in the afternoon (It was 50 and 45 degrees the 2 days I was there).  The edges would be very thin for the first 4 feet or so when you show up in the morning, but solidified quickly after a couple steps.  Inlet area did have a large patch of open water I don't think was there the first day.  Water was flowing in rapidly.

Sorry guys. New to the forum. I see people asking for the ice thickness but I don't see the location anywhere. Am i missing it somewhere?? Like most people this time of year, I am also looking for safe ice to take the family out. I appreciate any ideas.

fish...don't be too disappointed about not getting a location, some things are meant to be kept mum. If you are thinking about front-range ice for the family, please be careful. The freeze-thaw-wind cycle can really raise heck with existing ice. Stay safe!  :)

Fishouttawater,
St. Vrain is great for the family and you can call the entrance station to ask about the ice. 303-678-9402

Or try Evergreen lake, if you don't mind the crowds and catching snot rockets.  It's safe for the whole family, just avoid the inlet area.

Or, if you're more interested in exploiting fishing reports that result in the destruction of local fisheries, you might try another website.

Mountains over her shoulder, she's facing east. Species mix and size seems unlikely for the front range. Curiouser and curiouser. Walleyeslayer06 seems like someone I'd like to get to know.

Fishouttawater I started to follow this forum this winter and realized locations are not forthcoming! There is a tight group that know each other and share information with each other. Somehow have to break into that inner circle to get information I guess. I am in Northern Colorado...if you ever have any questions about lakes up this way you can email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to share with you.

Or could she be out West, facing West, with the mountains behind her to the East  ;)

Private don't count  ;D

Hey, ColoradoBob, despite what you think there's no secret Colorado ice shanty society  ;D.  Just some guys who are friendly enough to fish together a few times and share info together privately.  Actually FISH together and talk and have fun...not just joining the forum and asking for info on where to fish.  There are other websites for exploiting that type of crap and ruining fisheries.  There are probably fifty lurkers reading this post today, hoping for the name of this lake.

So maybe we'll see you or others on the ice sometime!  Perhaps another Colorado Ice Shanty gathering would be the ticket to meet some new faces.

BABM. An Ice Shanty meeting on the ice (or at your house) sometime would be a great idea.

Stop it, you guys are flattering me!  Only one person on here had the stones to PM me and ask where it is, and I told him.  I'd prefer not to broadcast it, but being a noob to this site I have no problem sharing the spots with the people I can see also like to keep things on the DL.  There have been a couple spots I've been wondering about as well, that I've seen on here.  Maybe tradsies are in order.

dallasdb I caught 3 bass like that out of the same hole in about 30 minutes last year at Lone Tree, then it was over.  Lone Tree can be frustrating at times but there are some big bass there.
By the way there is a housing development going in along the east side of the lake. Rumor has it that the developers ??? may take over the lease on the lake and it will then become private. We talked to a Ranger about a week ago who said the State has submitted a new lease proposal to the irrigation company that owns the lake. Hope that it will remain public ???

Nope, the sun is to her right which means she's facing East unless they're South of the Equator in which case they have no business on the Colorado forum.
