Egypt Meadow is the first of the two lakes on the Bruce Lake nature trail.  The second is Bruce Lake.  Egypt meadows is about 1.5 miles or so from the parking area.  Bruce Lake is about 2.5 miles from the parking area.  I think both lakes are in the 50-100 acre range but that's just a guess.  I believe Egypt Meadow was drained in the last 8-10 years for dam repairs and has since been re-filled.  I've never ice fished it but I have hiked that trail many times during the summer months and have wet a line there each time.  Pickerel, bass, perch and gills are common.  Not sure about crappie.  Tons of snakes there during the summer months as well.  Last time I caught a 6+ foot black snake sunning on a rock and showed it to my kids.

As Charlijones mentioned, motor vehicles are not permitted on the trails to the best of my knowledge.  Not sure about snowmobiles...  trail is well marked but not paved or graveled.  You can hike or ride mountain bikes back there.  I think it is open to horseback riders as well.

I don't know how good it is but one thing is for sure, with how far you have to hike I'm sure not many people ice fish it.  And with lots of snakes around I'd say the same about during the soft water.

You are correct Chris.  Vey few people fishing that lake because of the hike.  I always caught fish there during the warm months but nothing remarkable.  I was generally fishing for just 30-60 minutes at a time so I've never put enough time into it to have a meaningful opinion on it either way.  Further, I'm not sure how the draw-down affected the fish or if the lake has since rebounded.  Clearly a draw down is harmful for fishing but if they just drained it halfway or so, the fishing should be OK.  If they drained all or most of the water, it's probably a different story altogether.  In my experience, it takes 10 years or more for a lake to rebound after a full draining - and that's with stocking.  Not sure if the powers that be lugged fish by the hundreds a few miles back for a small secluded lake that few people fish.

They drained Egypt Meadow to a fraction of its normal volume, I have a video of it somewhere, you can see the bottom structure which is loaded with stumps.  There was one small patch of water left and the creek channel to the dam.   I haven't been back there since the draw down.

Last time I was on Bruce Lake trail they actually had a sign saying no bikes on the trail, I think they are mostly all gated trail heads in that area.

Thanks for the update Charlie. Do you remember when Egypt Meadow was drained?

As an FYI - I found a page on the DCNR website that lists Egypt Meadow at 48 acres and Bruce Lake at 56 acres.  On the low end of the size I thought them to be...

Snakes never bothered me.
Leave them alone.they will leave you alone.
Too many cowboys out there that want to shoot every snake.
Its a shame.
Back to Topic this lake has me very interested.Very.
Someone with a good trapers basket.A bucket of livebait and a hand auger could have a good time.
Anyone interested in making the walk let me know.
Im in Cresco.not too far away.

Quick follow up on Egypt Meadow and my comments about re-stocking after the refill...  I checked the PA fish commission website and it looks like the fish commission did re-stock this lake fairly aggressively from 2008 to 2013 with LM bass, perch, black crappie, gills, shiners and a few pumpkinseeds.  The fish commission records go back to 2000 so I'm guessing that the lake was re-filled in 2008 because I see no stockings prior to that year.   http://fbweb.pa.gov/stocking/WWCWStockingDetailsHistorical_RFP.aspx

I fished EM last Feb2015, caught mostly small yellow perch. This is a fairly shallow lake with most depths under 10ft. For those who think nobody fishes here, think again. It's a good ice fishing lake for a small pond, but not some secret paradise. Don't want anyone disappointed. Good fishing. FT :)

butcher, your time frame is correct, my last trip back there was July 2007 (had to look it up) the lake was drawn down considerably.  I would say the fishing was good before the draw down.  If you want lunkers probably look elsewhere but if you want a place to get away from the crowds then you will enjoy it.

Was at PromisedLand yesterday afternoon into evening.
Got there at 1.30   fished to 6pm.
Snowed the whole time.
Was a beautiful afteroon to be out.
Fishing wasent too bad either.
met my buddy spider there.
was 8" of ice in most spots.
we each had a nice mess of fish at the end of the trip.
here is my take of Gills, Perch, and Bullhead.
Ride was a bit tricky on the way home but it was a great afternoon of fishing. :)

Well, took a walk back to Egypt Meadows with a couple buddies. The EM trail was supposed to be pretty rough, mostly a hiking trail, so we took the Bruce lake trail which was a 1.5 mile jeep trail. Not too bad of a drag if you go light, which I didn't but I had my smitty and there was a little fresh snow on the trail. Took us about 30 min. Fished it for a couple hours and got 1 18" pickerel and a couple bait sized perch. Pretty disappointed but you can't judge a lake by 1 day. Water was heavily stained, 5-8 ft with 6-8 inches of ice. There was an inch of fresh snow on the ice and you could see several fresh holes and tracks from guys that fished the lake the night before. I hope they did better than us. We followed their tracks out and it lead to the EM trail that somehow turned into a good jeep trail. Guess which way we took out, took about 5 min.

We ended up on PL lower lake hoping on some evening crappie action that never happened. It was a tough bite here too. Ended up with some perch and some gills and 1 stocker trout and a couple snot rockets.

We were just talking about this the other day. I have hiked into Bruce lake, but never Egypt Meadow. I think it would be worth it. Don't think many folks would hike that far. Wouldn't be bad with a couple inches of snow and the smitty sled. Deep snow would be another story................. ..................

I live right up the road from PL and fish it often all year. I haven't been on this lake since last week. After the last couple weeks we've had I would say be very careful. Even if you think the ice is plenty thick, it still might be no good. I'm gonna give it until next week some time, we're supposed to get some winter temps this weekend and I'm hoping that it stiffens up the ice.

No that's not me in the picture, it's the main character from the Red Green Show.  That show was HILARIOUS, you can see it on YouTube, and it's definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

The red green show is on some evenings. On an allentown/Lehigh valley area station. Like around 6 pm.

I actually went to a taping in the mid 90's and joined the Possum lodge in person. One of the episodes I'm in the lodge meeting at the end.  Kind of weird Red Green groupies(guys) wearing plaid shirts with suspenders and varying amounts of duct tape. Some of the better ones got pulled out of the line and were put in as "extras" during the taping..... wished I had taken my own fishing vest...  ;D
