any reports of ice conditions from the lake of the woods area,

Saw a post on facebook that said 17" at birch.

EDIT: Just noticed that it was on the Buffalo point side that was 17" not Birch

There is an ice road from Rat Portage and one from town over Treaty. No road through Holmstroms Marsh yet.
To get to 12 Mile you have to go through Rocky Narrows, over Strawberry Island and then across by Scotty's.
South of 12 Mile there is reports of 24" of ice but lots of snow cover which equals possibility of slush.
With the big dump of snow 2 days ago I would say slush is a big threat. Tons of ice for sledding though.

a co-worker was out last weekend to birch. 16" ice, but they caught only 1 small jack at the sand bar.

over the last couple of years with my experience anyway, the fishing has seemed to have slowed out there a bit (sandbar ), need to find where they have move to, maybe closer to the boat launch, remember going with my grandfather many years ago and he would just drive a couple hundred yards out and that where we fished, with good results too.
