The Nebraska Ice Map Reporting Thread
« on: Dec 07, 2016, 04:41 PM »
The 2016 Nebraska Ice Map 2017 is UP and ready for your Ice Reports!

Please use this thread to ask for and to provide ice condition reports for any Public Fishery  in Nebraska you may visit.  Several Ice Map Volunteers will monitor this thread and update the map accordingly.

There are over 150 current (Public) locations on the map, but if we missed one, let us know here and we will get it on the map!

This "one stop" Ice Report thread is to provide everyone ONE PLACE to report/look for Nebraska Ice Conditions.  Please do NOT use this thread for posting fishing success (or not!) reports- those reports belong on a separate thread for viewers to see and comment!

Most lakes on the Valentine Refuge report 4 to 6 inches of new ice on the east ends. The back of Boardman Creek Near the Boardman Campground access was reported to have 4 to 6 inches there. Other areas of Merritt recently skinned over and are covered by 2 to 3 inches of snow/considered unsafe until posted otherwise. Going forward, the forecast looks good for a substantial ice cap to build, despite some snow. Reports of some good success, especially on bluegills, coming from both Merritt and the refuge.

Map updated through 12/11/16.  THANK YOU!  Keep the reports coming, we have a lot of "no report" icons on the map!  ANY report (open water; thin ice; etc) will get that icon off and replaced with a red ?!

Summit was between 2-3" over the weekend....you'll be fine by Sunday, stick in the Arms at Summit and away from the trees at Wanahoo if you're being overly cautious.   I did here Summit had a section of open water off the south arm towards the main basin on Sunday.

As of Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 4:30 pm, Walnut Creek (Papillion) had 3.25 inches of crystal-clear ice in the area near the boat ramp.  There was a narrow stretch of open water running north and south along the east side of the lake (across on the other side from the boat ramp) though.  There did not appear to be any signs of significant angler activity on the lake at the time.

I am planning to take another measurement on Thursday afternoon and maybe (just maybe) get my first fishing session in as well.

Nate

4.5-5" on a NRD Lake west of York.  Good clear hard ice.  Went to see how much ice and test out new clam plate for my auger (which worked really well)..  Ended up catching a few bluegill also.  Guess thats the start to my season!!!

Wagon Train was at 5" this morning.  Was only person there, but had been fished the day before as well - quite a few holes drilled on west side.
