what is the best cordless drill to use when putting in ice anchors?

Get Eskimo Ice anchors EZPZ no drill required.

If you have chosen Eskimo ice anchors you can "Bare-hand" them in.

Almost any drill will do just fine ~ unless it is to small, like for working on eyeglasses.

Fair warning, any other brand of ice anchor will very likely need a small pilot hole.

Lots of changing of the pilot and back to the anchor "driver" over and over.

ps: Maybe take two cordless drills along in order to avoid that dratted drill changing.

Eskimo is the way to go.

If I was to use an adapter for anchors, it would go on one of my impacts..

They are smaller and lighter than a drill too..

I use a Milwaukee drill but if its cold the batteries don't last very long

Well I use my dewalt 20v bought two 5v batteries so I can use the clam drill. Still trying to figure if I'm going to purchase the k-drill or not. And just in this year dewalt came out with a 6v battery so you'll get more out of it in the cold.... right now you can usually pick a drill up cheap for the holidays shoppers. Why I go with dewalt I can find it everywhere so if something gos wrong not to hard to find a replacement. My apologies amp 5 amp and 6 amp...

A Bosch 36 volt is good in the cold and the batteries stay up, they cost a lot, most batteries do not last in the cold.

I see quite a few going with the Milwaukee Fuel. The K-Drill auger inudes it in its package. It will be my choice when I convert to an electric, no one I've fished with has had any battery issues fwiw.

I had an eskimo quick flip 3 but sold it and bought the Clam 6000 this year. Are the Clam ice anchors bad? I have never used them. Should I go buy eskimo anchors? Thanks.

I recommend using a bodkin or awl to make a starter hole instead of a drill. You could probably use your ice safety picks to stab a hole.

I took a Stanley Yankee screw driver, old school stuff here, got a 9/32 8 inch long drill bit metal, notched the end to fit in driver, needs 2 notches , makes a nice pilot hole.

Forget the drill and those poorly designed screws that come with your shelter - buy ice climbing screws. They are hollow, small, weigh nothing, rated to 2000 pounds and you turn them in with just your hands in about 15 seconds. use the drill that turns your auger. i use eskimo driver on eskimo ice anchor. the anchors are sold at gander mountain in a 6 pack and pouch for 30$. the driver is about 12-15$ so 45$ gets 6 nice anchors that can be installed by hand super easy if you would rather spin them by hand.

The shortest ones (13 cm = 4-5 inches) are a bit cheaper, quickest to insert and more than adequate to anchor a shelter. I like the mid-length option. All lengths have the same strength rating of 2248 pounds in good ice - you could even use them to winch out a wheeler if you had to.

I know a lot of these drills come in kits with an impact driver..

I would think the impact would be perfect for ice anchors. Just take the same battery and run it in the impact for a second... Impacts are really light without the battery..

As far as a drill I have the 18 volt Makita brushless and its great for stakes and running my Nils.

Milwaukee's FUEL line of cordless tools are great. Most everyone at work uses them for year round field work without issue.

I have one and it has never stop me from drilling, Home depot usually has a deal with a Coreless and a Impact gun for $305, that's how I got mine.

Eskimo ice anchors go in easily BY HAND! Maybe if you are a limp wrist may need a drill--

I use a 20v dewalt everyday all year long. It never lets me down. But I would recommend the 5ah batteries. Should handle any task on the ice you may need

I just got a Clam plate with a 6" mora auger topped it of with a 20V Dewalt for 99$ They make a 6 amp battery which should be great. It drills so fast its amazing! Weights about ten lbs. I've drilled about 100 holes in 4 times out still using the 1.5 amp battery it came with. I really am pleased with the whole unit.

I have had a makita lithium for years and it does great. Use it for anchors and as my auger motor. Fished ocean the other day and got 20+ holes per battery with over 7" of ice.
