Poly finish on tip ups
« on: Dec 02, 2016, 06:09 PM »
Was thinking on putting some poly on my jacks to #1 help preserve them & #2 try to prevent them from sticking to the ice. Anyone ever try this?

Yes the spar poly works well, like minwax helmsman.

They will still freeze in some when water pushed out of the hole BUT it will make a big difference helping to free them up.

Ahhhh, I just spray a bunch of WD-40 on 'em.

Sorry guys, the door was open......

To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Wax works too. Ice doesn't stick to it.
May the fish be with you.

I used a marine varnish on my heritage traps. Works great, ice pops right off if it sticks at all. Also noticed that my drags are no longer affected by the swelling of the wood soaking up water
