Team Ct. Iceshanty Meet & Greet
« on: Dec 02, 2016, 05:24 PM »
I see that a few guys are talking about an event like the one at the cove,I suggest we put one together, The cove would not be my favorite choice,Water quality is not the best. A large enough lake with many different species would be good,Lets hear some suggestions.I'm up for volunteering some time, Icefishing ,Cooking, Beverages,Don't forget the lastest BS

Crystal Lake in Ellington would be good. Bass , pickerel, perch, small mouth, trophy trout lake, salmon, crappie and even an occasional horned pout. Large lake, plenty of room, great access and parking.
A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!

We are up for it for sure and agree with you about Wethersfield. I'm partial to Winchester or Highland but will go anywhere. Whatever is good for everyone I know its a haul for some guys not near the northwest corner.

The cove was the go to spot mainly because it's fairly centered in the state so no one would have to drive super far. Personally I love fishing there because of the amount of different fish you can catch. I've only ever had one bad day there and have probably had some of my best days there.

That being said I'm not opposed to driving anywhere to meet up with good people for good stories and fishing
The BIG one is just one flag away!

Species caught : largemouth, smallmouth,  bluegill, perch, White perch, crappie, trout, catfish, bowfin, pickerel, pike

Thanks for the quick responces , I know the only date I'm booked is 1/28/17 the walleye challenge, any other dates are good with me, The coldest weather this season is due here by next weekend,The outlook for something in mid  Jan looks good, We want good safe as possible ice conditions. No matter were we choose. A nice shore lunch could be in order, making the location holding eatable fish. If the new Bait shop in Plainville would like to sponsor this, thats great. the more people involved the better. I have not spoak to Our MOD Eiderz, But I'm sure he will be on board to get the Ct iceshanty people together,Not to say other states could show up?Lets make it a great event.

I would also suggest we start, saving Fish fillets that work well in a deep fried peanut oil with beer batter With Home fries, for those of you that show up. I think we should call it Team Ct Ice Shanty Meet Greet & Eat.

Good to see you guys planning this, the weather report looks good for ice. I know I've got the itch! My suggestion echoes those already mentioned, pick a relatively central spot. Wethersfield Cove is centrally located with highway access, as are a couple of other small lakes...Batterson Park Pond comes to mind. The smaller, shallower lakes will be more likely to have good ice, not that we're worried about that this year.  ;D

I would be down to go i would nominate a place with good jigging with a shot at a nice pike bantam North Bay I would pick much better jigging then South Bay. I also have a bunch of blackfish in the freezer that fry's extremely well ;)
Go big or go home

we have a little time to plan this, what we should do is make a list and the majority will rule. post the water that you think would be the best for the meet &greet on this thread, then there will be no bad feelings everyone can read the results My vote Batterson  lets hear yours

Don't normally fish it, but I like Weathersfield as well. It's small size lends itself to everyone getting to meet each other, with plenty of parking.  And you just never really know what will come up the hole.

Id try to make it. Im in the northwest corner (near twin) so selfishly Winchester, Bantem, Highland, twin, would be great.  Cove is good with me if we are looking for something more central.

i'm all for crystal but i live close to it. you should have a plan b though. crystal is the last lake to lock up in the area. ice can be sketchy. you can have 8" on a place nearbye but only 3 or 4 on crystal. the fishing can be great for trophy trout and big bass. not to mention the salmon.

the score is 4 weathesfield,1 Batterson, 1 crystal, It is a good idea for a plan B just in case ice is not safe in the area picked

we will not know if we need a plan B until we get near our date once we set it.First we need to pick the location, then date,You are right about the northwest corner of the state always has the most ice.

Lets stick Candlewood or Lilly in the mix…I know too far but you would be back every weekend. Whatever is decided and people are comfortable walking on I'm good.

We will add Candlewood to the mix, I have to say will knock out most from ct.river and east, long ride not central.Just my train of thought,This event is to bring the most Ct. icefishermen together in a centrally  located spot. I also have to say we may do more than one in 2017,if there is a second meet and greet it will be in a different location than the first

I vote the cove, easy on off, central and a variety of fish.  Just smells like a toilet sometimes.
