After this weekend the temps look to take a tumble, not super cold but some lows in the single digits and a few highs in the teens. I just hope the wind stays away, weather app says windy. Next weekend should be close in a few areas in NW Iowa, remember safety first folks. I bought a Striker suit and a auto inflate PFD, hopefully I never get a chance to see if they really work. I put the long poles away but might dig them out for a couple more chances at some humpbacks, Sunday and Monday.

I was hoping for the 15 but according to weather underground 10-20 mph winds from the 5th-11th doesn't sound good for ice although temps seem favorable

Trumbull Lake was wide open yesterday,  today 95% + capped, if the IDNR didn't cut all the trees down around this lake it might already be locked. Lost Island yesterday all open, today Clay side close to capped, Palo Alto side open but really wanting cap. The wind is killing the ice now, marshes and shallow areas still have open spots. On another site someone thought there would be ice fishing today in the Lakes area,  not even close. If the snow stays away Saturday,  next weekend should have good ice everywhere except west o, only my opinion. Be safe it's only a fish. I will ice fish Friday I hope in a area that might have enough and is private.

Lost Island Lake capped last night, a few open pockets on south side. I didn't drive around the lake to see if any other holes.

Clear lake is capped. Smaller ponds/lakes around here are also. This weekend is possible on those small shallow waters, but as luck would have it, we're going to get the white stuff to slow the growth. I'm going out Sunday to a couple farm ponds and test off the docks.  Be safe guys and use your safety gear and most of all your brain.

There is snow forecast for much of northern Iowa this weekend. That could really muck things up on waters that just capped now.

I checked the east side of lost island and had 3 inches of frozen slush and ice. Lost island is 95% ice.

By Saturday morning there will be places in NW IA with 6 inches of ice.
