My guess is my annual 1st ice will be fishable the weekend of the 17th. Maybe even sooner but I am a weekend warrior.

First day of winter is Wed. Dec. 21. I've scheduled my first day on the ice for that day. But! Using pond and small lake ice formation data indicates that my local ponds should have four inches of ice on Monday Dec. 12th. My bulk indicates that the 21st will be safer for me?
I plan to order my new jigs , plastics and wax worms on the 13th.

I'd say 3rd week in December I should be able to stand on something... fingers crossed. My schedule is wide open the 11th and 12th so I'm sure all the ponds will be as well. I'm going to start dumping bags of ice in my 1st ice spot to bring the water temp down!!

Why wait for Ice? Toughed it out today trolling, high winds and snow squalls, got three Bows, biggest was 20 inches. My ice gear is ready but in the meantime. Fish on.

Now you are a serious fisherman! The last two 40 degree days in the north I fished crawlers in the Conn. River and brought home a bunch of 12 inch yellow perch and two big walleye. The best part was that I did it only 50 feet from the warmth of my pickup.
I'm sure that will be the last open water fishing here because the forecast is for an entire week of below freezing weather?

Looking at the weather forecast it looks like temps well below freezing for 10 days strait. Fingers crossed for some small ponds to lock up

Nice! Keep at it. I'm still doing a little shore fishing on the pond I live on (mainly while walking the pup) but the boat has been put up for a little while.

Glad to hear it, hopefully we will have one of those years where we fish hard and soft water in the same month. Wont be long now.

Yup, after last night and today I'm guessing anything I cast at my little pond will bounce instead of sinking lol.

I usually get out for my birthday (December 20th) on a small warm water pond in Harrisville. As long as that's possible, I'm happy, but I'm thinking people will be getting out on small ponds by early to mid next week with some of the temps I have been seeing. Glad to be get a better start to winter this year. Last year killed me inside!
