recently i read how the fuel line freeze up for some. other than that, they all seem to like it. some of them are switching to cordless drill for a power head.

I'm not a fan of propane augers at all..

The weight alone is a deal breaker, then you have the fuel bottles to keep warm, have to deal with oil changes and possible leaks, spark plug. A leaky fuel bottle can be catastrophic...

The way an electric drill auger is modular, allows you to replace or upgrade any part of it whenever needed..

Simply put, an electric drill auger is the only power auger that can get better as a few years pass.. Technology in motors and batteries is being improved every day..

I don't see a better, lighter, better in the cold, smaller, fossil fuel coming out ...

Propane's advantages over gas..

Fuel can't spill, extra fuel can't spill
Quieter for the most part

Not that it's a race, but propane rigs all seem on the slow side too...

If memory serves me correctly, propane augers came out about the same time when electric augers starting getting really popular.. Look how far drill augers have come, where as propane rigs are more or less the same as the day they came out, except with some bugs worked out..

Here is an older drill auger thread, sort of funny to read today...

ive got a jiffy pro4 lite this year to drill holes.i drilled  a  few holes before ice out last year.its a 4 stroke but all jiffy augers drill fast do to the gearing in the gearbox.jiffy is known for hi speed drilling.no more leaky gas caps, flooding, priming or guessing when to use choke or not..gummy carbs from crap gas.starts in 3 pulls or less and with my 5 inch bit it weighs less than 26 pounds.it drill just as fast as my jiffy sd60i 2 stroker.

Don't get me wrong, they are good augers if you have one already, same with a good 2 stroke....

But looking at it these days, and considering a new auger..

If I had to do it over again, I would not go with a Jiffy. Their customer service sucks big time!  I have a generation one pro four and have had trouble from day one with the fuel line. Jiffy was terrible to deal with and I would not recommend their products to anyone.  Eskimo has some of the best customer service representatives in the business. They have helped me out on issues with tents on multiple occasions. Five-star service!

I had a new pro 4 for two fuel tanks and got rid of it. Worst auger ever. it was way too heavy, throttle return spring is way too weak to pull the throttle back on real cold days, and yes the throttle cable wasn't froze. The rubber sleeve that holds the pin in for the bit is impossible to slide off when it's cold. Had to warm it up with the buddy heater just to put the extension on. It also spins way too fast and throws water all over your boots n legs. The oil turns white from condensation and they claim its normal. The one thing I did like and only one is it started good. I'm back to the old reliable Strikemaster two stroke. Just my brutally honest opinion.

I went with a K drill that matches with a milwaukee drill best but can work with any drill.  the auger it's self is only about 5-10 pounds and works great.  getting about 20 holes per battery and i have 4 batteries, i can punch holes all day.  i would recommend looking into it.  i already had the drill so the $250 for the auger attachment was worth it for me.  super convenient and easy to use.

Typically the propane and other 4 stroke are quieter than 2 strokes...

Ive only had the Jiffy for 2 years, probably less than 50 holes and i liked it a lot more than my 2 stroke.  I just want to go lighter. I plan on going with a 7" Lazer and either Milwaukee or Ridgid.
