So what Is our best guesstimate when firt ice will be here thinking December 30, 2016 but hopeing sooner .. so what's your guess??

I am thinking around Christmas in North Central MI to a few of my 1st ice spots. West MI will be the 1/7/17. That is saying things get back to normal. Did see a small pond skimmed over completely this morning!

Right before the new year, I'd bet on Cadillac/Mitchell Lk, Chippewa Lk, or Houghton Lk. Usually my first ice trips are made here and they seem to freeze a week or two prior to anything else near the middle of the state. Time will tell!

1/7/17 for a day or so, then it'll leave. Sustained safe(ish)fishable ice after 1/25/17 until early March. Seems to be the typical way it's went lately, see another spotty winter down here

I WILL be thanking God if I can get out sooner!
But here in Michigan, being surrounded by those great lakes it just takes longer than I can usually hope for.

My S.W.A.G. for first fish-able ice on protected waters is Dec 21 and Jan 10 for the larger lakes.

I have a feeling that the Siberian snow cover effect may have some weight to it.

. Dec 7th is the earliest ive ever ice fished. Jan 6-8 seems most realistic

I'm hoping it will be the week of Christmas/New Years. I have an 11 day stretch of vacation days and would really like to get on some ice. I'll drive to the U.P. if necessary and maybe even further north, or even over to Minn.

I went by long lake just outside of Fife Lake this afternoon and it was frozen over about half way the length of the lake. In many places there was snow sitting on top. But warmer temps are coming

for the Livingston county area I'm guessing January 2018 at this rate!! last year there was 2-3" of ice for a couple weeks on some of the smaller lakes and bays of bigger ones around here.at this time last year.

hey papermouth there is some cold air off to our west hopefully next week will change our mood towards upcoming weather,lakes in my area are cold and had ice forming last week with that cool down, we gotta believe it will get cold soon don't believe any long range forecast just yet

I'm seeing next week the lows are supposed to be in the mid teens with highs in mid 20's. I think there will be fishable ice before the first of the year.

I will be fishing on safe ice by the 24th of December.......7 to 10 days in the mid to low teens will lock it up on some small lakes if we stay away from high winds and no big snow storms. it is gonna happen this year, I am quite confident.
