"Ice Shanties

Ice shanties must be marked on the outside with the owner's name and address in letters at least 3 inches high. Shanties must be removed from all waters by March 15 to prevent them from falling through the ice in spring and becoming hazards to navigation."

Does this apply for portable shelters, like the flip over versions?

If you leave it on the ice, unattended, they could/might ding you.

I pondered this same question, because my flip has an ID sleeve. Figured the manufactures added them because this is a state by state regulation. Well I never leave my shack out overnight (easy to steal), but put the info in the sleeve anyway. One less thing to worry about when getting checked.

I could see this thread being a "taste great" ..."less filling" debate and NYSDEC has responded fairly quickly on FB for me in the past ...I also thought it was a FAQ in the NYS fishing guide some years back ..but cant seem to locate it.

Have him put that in writing and sign it - on DEC letterhead.  They do not have anything, in print, referring specifically to portable shelters.  It's an interpration and a ECO could write you.  Maybe it will not stand up, but it can be a PIA.
