« on: Oct 18, 2016, 12:50 PM »
If anyone is looking for Ethanol free gas I just found out that the gas station at Bill's Shop-rite on Route 502 in Daleville is selling it.

I'll stick with buying it, a lot less headaches than explaining what I did to my wife or the fire chief if something goes wrong.

Baetis62 you beat me to posting about the pure- gas website. It is not cheap but depending on how often you fish and number of holes cut per trip I believe most of the premixes of  2 cycle are ethanol free.

Premixes are probably the best especially running ultra lean like 80 or 100:1.  Ive found if I keep a can in my rig once it's empty I seem to be able to fill up at the pump pretty easily just bumping around my sales territory during work or on one of my
bird hunting trips.  Every state is probably different but I'll never put regular gas in any 2 cycle gear or my 4 wheeler.  If you don't burn through it in 30 days or less consider holding out for the good stuff.

Here in my area of Pennsylvania there's not many places that sell Ethanol free gas, there was only one before.  I got lucky when Bill's started selling it since they're pretty close to me.

Na that's ok, I'll stick with my gas auger because I like it besides I can buy a lot of gear with the money I'll save by not buying an ION with their crazy price.

All I use now is ethanol free with my Auger…it's an ION ::) ::)  Used ethanol in my last auger cause I could not find E-free and after using Star tron in every tank, had to have the carbs rebuild in 2.5 years ($95 later).  If you can get Ethanol free, do it.

I second that. I use it in all my 2-cycle engines shelf life is great and I don't have to worry about gummed up carburetors

I agree with jar head  buddy bought a ion with yes ago
We've drilled r0 holes in a day battery still had almost full charge
Yes it's a  big  investment but how much did a gas auger cost
That you have to get gas for it hope you don't sing soprano from tryingto start it in 10 degree weather with snow.blowing
And when it stops running 90 bucks for.a tune up.if you don't need parts
Just my wife cents worth

For the price of one replacement battery I can fuel my gas auger for roughly 30 years and I'm sure you're going to need a few new batteries over 30 years.  Also with some preventative maintenance repairs will be minimal.

You're right, there's pluses and minuses to everything and I understand why you went with the ION.  If I had all that done to me I'd get one also.  My hat's off to you for sticking with it, lots of others would've given up a long time ago.

I use true fuel too. For the amount that I'm able to get out it's just easier for me to keep a bottle or two handy in my truck/sled, and 1 bottle equals hundreds of holes.

I have 3 gas augers. Been ice fishing over 40 yrs. and 3 yrs ago a rep from clam showed me the new conversion kit and how well it worked, so I bought one and put my dewalt drill on it with a 5" lazer auger ,I drilled 96 holes in 19" of ice the first time out. It is light and so far dependable I love it. But just in case I always have one of my power augers in the truck when I am not close to home I am 67 yrs old and would perfir not to carry any more weight than I have to. Oh buy the way my son and I fished last yr for 2 days up in NY. with a high temp of 7 degrees and had no battery issues...
