Blackstrap Lake 2016-2017
« on: Oct 02, 2016, 09:05 AM »
Was out fishing on Friday night and helped my buddy pull in his dock and boat in on Saturday.

Fall is here and it won't be long and we will be back on hard water.

Caught pile of little Walters this summer so there is fish in Blackstrap!

Post your stories here this winter.

Good fishing!

How long do they keep the launch docks in? I want to do a little mapping with my lowance before I have to slip on some waders to launch my boat.

There was one at the provincial park last Saturday. Not sure how long they leave it in?

They have been letting water out big time because they are doing some work on the canals by Bradwell so the lake is down a fair bit.

How much is a fair bit? 2 feet or a few inches lol. Hopefully is doesn't mess the fish up. I fish turtle on a regular basis, it see similar pressure like  blackstrap. When the water levels were low it moved a lot of fish off there usual locations.

I don't have any hard measurements but I would guess 8-12"?

They may fill up from Broderick as well? It is a reservoir so it's going to vary.  I find that BS does not usually vary much.

yes its down a bit maybe 6",nothing really to affect the lake or fish habitat.happens every year. on another note it does not appear there will be access at Evans road anymore.. walk on only.. as they have put some of those big cement barricades up top of the hill..and on the bottom. parking should be very congested lol. looks like park access and down the boat launches if your using a permy...kinda figured it was coming with all the garbage people leave behind. and i guess all the new housing....north end access will be next with all the crap left up on shore and on the lake every ice season.hopefully just a few weeks away now. ;D

I wonder how that get's decided?  Putting the concrete barriers up so people cannot drive on the ice.  Is it the community association?  Or the provincial park?  SERM?  I'm not out there much in the early spring to see how much garbage is out on the ice.

It is a terrible mess with all those shacks at the North End.

Most of those shacks haven't moved for years, nothing a good fire wouldn't fix! Lol

If any of you left your shack at the north end they appear to all wrecked and ransacked!

Terrible mess up there. My neighbour was suggesting we should assemble a clean up party when it snows with the fire department.  The garbage around there is terrible all the way along the dam as well. The garbage in the pit where people shoot is adding up.

They are going to put up gates people!

ones mans trash is another mans treasure, I'd say go for it. Even bradwell has broken old shacks that have been sitting there for god knows how many years.

I'll try per-ice fishing for pike and whitefish. Maybe I should use two ice rods as they go for different bait.

I check the ice an hour ago at a few locations along the south dam. The thickness varies between 1 and 2 inches. It's so close. I guess the smaller bradwell reservoir should be good for walking on already.

The last 50 yards of Evans road is chained off with signage. From that vintage point, that section of lake is frozen over.

Is Evans road not a road allowance?  And if so, it is public access so why can it be blocked?

I'm almost sure it's the community there now that had something to do with it. They might have had to go through some other channels to get the signage and those cement barricades in place to stop all the traffic. As I said before all the activity and garbage laying around on the ice and on shore every spring probably not a hard decision to make for them. Whoever them are.
