« on: Sep 18, 2016, 02:55 AM »
My dad and I are building our first permanent shack it will mostly be used as a warming shack for tip up fishing but it will have a few jigging holes we have lights a radio air circulation fans and a two burner cook top. Just wanted to know if anyone has any must have ideas or things the wish they had done the first time and any pictures of the insides of their shacks I love to see everyone's ideas

X2---- We really appreciate it when members update their profiles to include their location! Thanks in advance!! One thing you need are plenty of pegs/racks for coats and hats!! Also a table and seating for eating, playing cards, etc.!!

Hi RVFD47. I like the pictures. I noticed a ribbon of checker plate that is bent all around the top plate, is this to help stiffen the shack or does it serve another purpose?

I was thinking about a table but I'm not sure if I want to hinge it on the wall or one on a post like a boat seat

A hinged table makes more sense. That way you can fold it down out of the way when not using it. Some guys set then up so they can be used as a bunk. Just a thought.....

X2 on a hinged table.I built a portable shooting house for deer hunting on a trailer,it has two chairs,a heater and a fold down bench/ table for when I take one of my kids hunting so they can lie down for a nap during long waits.I sheltered in the shack during a bad storm, took myself a few hours nap, untill it passed.

Per request some Pics of the inside of my shack. Its 6.5' x 12' + a V front. Has 6 holes no bunks as I do not sleep in these things.

Back end views.

4 of the 6 holes, 4' separation, small pop up table at each hole, 12V outlets, Rattle reals on two holes, Fish length scale

2 Windows,  coat Rack, rod Rack, Overhead light, Hooks for Ice Auger all home made.

Front views.

Last 2 holes, Forced air furnace, Battery, Door, small shelves, 12v outlets. AC outlets in V, Electric heater when plugged in at home or cabin

2 burner stove, storage selves, cabinet, overhead Light, door, Front rod rack

I am in the process of adding a 18" x 48" drop down table under the slider window across from the door. Fish Cleaning at end of day, Place to put food/drinks when we do a lunch on the ice.
Also an outside 20" x 48" drop down table behind the door above the drop-down wheel inside my Down-and-Out flip when additional guest join on the fishing trip. Added room 84 Sq. Ft. has an additional 6 holes.

On the Ice, Lake of the Woods 2014 first year out. Lots of adders/modifications since first trip.

Retractable Wheel House Table:
Many of the resorts / cabins where I stay on weekend fishing outings do not have a fish cleaning house. I also do not like the smell of dead fish from the cleaning process in my home. My wheel house is a fishing shack only, non-sleeper, which I take off the ice each night. It has both A/C and propane heat so I usually plug it into an AC outlet.
I decided to build a retractable / drop-down fish cleaning table 17” x 48” up and out of the way while on the ice and a warm place to clean fish. I use clear news print between the cleaning plank and the table to eliminate the need to wash the table every time I use it. Functionally works well, still needs some finish work, paint, stain, rust treatment. I can see many other uses for the table out on the ice.
