Lake Winnipeg
« on: Sep 10, 2016, 01:54 PM »
Hey folks. I'm looking to make a trip up to Lake Winnipeg next winter.  What is the best time of year to come up? Also are there any good guides I could possibly contact?

Thanks,
Bill

Late February until mid April. Our season has been extended this year from March 31 to the end of spring break, usually the first week in April. Best time to get on good numbers of big fish. Of course, the weather is the king. If forecasts hold, it will be a more normal winter. Ice should be good.

As for guides, quite a few up here. I can message you a bunch of names. As for accommodations, they book up quick. Most American groups book the next year before they leave. South beach casino, canalta hotels in Selkirk, or in a pinch right in Winnipeg.

I appreciate the info. Deffinitely going to get some things lined up for March of 2017. If that doesn't pan out I will deffinitely make it up in 2p18.

Winnipeg Beach has at least three motels/hotels available. Nothing fancy. Petersfield also has a motel. In addition, in the last few years a bunch of cottagers in the Matlock (Dunnottar) area have winterized their places to rent during the winter season. I'd imagine on a weekly basis. Not sure how they are advertising those though.

If you're fishing the east side, why not stay at South Beach Casino?  Fish during the day, gamble and lose your money at night! ;)
How long is a piece of string?
