Clam Plate with Milwaukee M18 Fuel just got better

They are releasing the 9 Ah battery talked about for the last year or so.  May make it so we can go a full day without a battery change and that would be pretty sweet.

How many holes are you drilling that the new one "may" make it so you can go a whole day without switching batteries?  The 5.0 has drilled me around 50 holes with battery to spare.

I see there is also a 6.0 that may be a better deal depending on pricing.

There are definitely scenarios where a 5 amp wont cut it.  Mid season thick ice comes to mind.  On the perch prowl in south dakota can at times require many holes,  staying on a school of yellows or finding the yellows at Clear Lake, IA and many other scenarios.

Don't most of the M18 kits come with 2 batteries to begin with?

Get the new gear box for the clam plate, it doesn't need a charger and you should get a lot more holes out of your current batteries...

A lot more affordable too..

The gear box is not something I am interested in at the moment.  It will reduce the speed to drill holes by half, or in other words take twice as long to drill the holes.  I look to get 100+ holes out of a 9Ah battery, which would make it more plausible to use on multi day trips where I don't have charging capabilities.

Also agree with Lyontyl's comments about hole hopping in SD or chasing yellows for the YBB tournament.  In those situations it's all about speed.

I am going to the Farm Progress Show in Boone Wednesday so I will see if Acme tools has any as a show special or not, hopefully they do.

The 9ah Milwaukee battery is definitely a game changer on a drill auger... Im estimating somewhere around 1500 inches with the 8" Mora. I just need the price to come down to reality. If the 9.0 comes in any tool combos I may need a new tool....

I'm sure you can find the deals on stuff was just showing that $200 for a 9amp battery for an ice auger setup isn't out of the price range if you look at ion & strike asters prices.

Even if you were to buy the 9.0ah battery I would still carry a spare just in case. I also bring my hand crank with me. What if you only bring 1 battery with you and no hand crank. The battery burns up on you then your day is pretty much over.

I totally agree with being prepared. However, I have drilled holes with just the drill and a dead battery before many times on thinner ice. On the Dewalt and the Milwaukee  and possibly the Makita, the chucks lock when not in use and you can just use the drill  as a way to turn the bit.

I will take two 6ah over the 9ah any day.  Cost less, less weight, less time to charge.

At my last count i was sitting on (4) 5.0AH (6)4.0ah and a good assortment of 3-1.5ah.... I probably don't "NEED" anymore for awhile.... but i will probably own one soon anyway.
