But you can only use them from May -15 till march-31 so I guess using smelt in 2017 ( on the ice) is out unless LG freezes in December ( 2017 )

my shanty isn't big enough to set up 6 tip ups and 1 jig rod 
If I just jig, don't think smelt is that big of a factor.
