How to repair hole in Scout tub
« on: Jul 24, 2016, 10:03 AM »
Hi all. I know this has been covered before. But I cant find it. Have an older clam Scout. Took off old runners to replace with new ones. When I got them off. I noticed I had a couple of small holes in the tub. Just never noticed them before. They are just past where the runners end at. What do you guys use to repair these holes? I have contacted Clam and am waiting for them to get back to me. It is going to be hot one today so I kind of want to install the new runners as they will bend a lot easier in the heat of the day. Yes I am chomping at the bit to get this done. Thanks for any and all suggestions. Charlie.

you could take it to a plastic welder, i bet it wouldn't be an expensive fix.

Depends on the size of the holes.
If they're small stick a piece of wax paper on the outside of the area with tape.
Scuff up the inside area with some 220 grit sandpaper and use some 3M 5200 marine sealant to repair the hole.
If the hole is larger using the same process add a piece of aluminium formed to fit the inside of the area.
Rivet the plate in place from the outside.

3m, sem.  etc  brands sells a auto body plastic weld it's like a caulk tube for mending plastic bumpers .. all you need is a plastic mesh and a puddy knife to spread it on might need a special caulk gun too... but that what they use. For plastic bumpers when people get in car accidents... they sell it at tcpglobal.com if interested in it...I think it for making plastic tabs to hold the bumper on... strong stuff... if any thing search or ask around.. this is all depending on type of plastic you got for the tub there are ways to find out...just a heads up  cause you need to if welding with heat or puddy ...

go to Harbor Freight and pick up a plastic welding kit. Same thing I use for fixing my kayak.

I think I have one that will work. Does yours have 2 molded in type runners right on the bottom of the sled?
