snowmobile trailer deck replacement
« on: Jul 21, 2016, 03:32 PM »
I am replacing the deck on my snowmobile trailer and having problems finding the same fasteners to secure the new plywood. The old screws are self drilling, self taping flat head screws, with a phillips drive. they are about 1/4in x 1 1/2in and have a head about 3/4in dia. I can find similar screws but they only have 1/2in or less heads. Some that I've found are called "wafer head" used for wood fastened to metal. My trailer is a "char can" aluminum 120x101 drive on/drive off, I can't find the maker of the trailer, and haven't gotten a response from triton, so I'm asking here. I know you guys have replaced the decks on your trailers and can help me out, so thanks in advance for any and all suggestions on what to do....Al

My bad..... Thought you needed 1/2" heads

Looking on the internet, a lot of people are using smaller heads.... Look at the reviews of this screw...

If you can't find what you're looking for, use the 1/2 screws with a washer with a total diameter that you're looking for.
You can observe alot by watching.

hope they fit the bill for you. they are for pressure treated applications and ceramic coated. if the head is smaller, use more of them, is what i'd do.

another site that has them or maybe better ones.

I could put more in the plywood, the package from ebay has 166 in it, I took out 60. So I'll have extra

I don't like 90+ heat so I've spent alot of time in the house. I found this screw this morning, has a 9/16 head 1 1/2in long, sent a question to the place that sells them about securing it to aluminum, comes in a 250ct box, but only $26.00 with shipping.

How about these?

(Image removed from quote.)
ended up going with a screw similar to this one with a torx drive, got them at a trailer manufacturing place north of where I live. trailer looks real nice with the new deck. Found some cracked welds that will get fixed, and 2 marker lights that need to be replaced. Thanks for all the tips.................. Al
