What size pike do you guys prefer to keep for the table?

Always been catch and release for them but plan on trying to keep a couple this summer.

24" - 30" are pretty good eaters. In some areas you can keep smaller ones. If I am in such an area I pickle them. In some areas you can only keep ones over 30" They get released. All depends on what the Regs are in your area.

x2, That's about my window except in the south part of the state min size is 26". Much larger than 30" they start to eat a little differently, not bad, just different. Besides, those bigger ones do such a great job of replenishing the population.

FWIW, be careful with your experiment. You may find a hidden gem of fine dining in the process....... ;)2
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I don't measure mine, but weigh them, and I prefer 3-5lbs for some really good eating. The only ones I don't keep are late summer fish. That warm water taints them a bit.

what I guesstimate to be in the 4-6 lbs range , finally got to where I can clean them to my satisfaction and immediately killing them if Im keeping them cuts the slime factor way way down

This is what I do also. Kill them immediately rather than leave them to die slowly. I put them in the fridge to fillet the next day and there is no slime in the fridge.
