Dang Dave!!! I sure hope your ice melts soon. We're in withdrawal for some cabin porn! With the ice season over down here, the site has gone into hibernation!!  ::) How soon before you start back at it again??

Dave.....I just watched your video, I was wondering how fast were you driving, I know from Ice Road Truckers they
have a speed limit. Is it only for the big rigs or does every vehicle have a speed limit?

I was doing about 45-50 MPH. The big trucks have speed limits as they are heavy and bend the ice.
If they go too fast they push a wave ahead of them under the ice. When the wave hits shallow water it blows out the ice and wrecks the road.
On the roads maintained by the highway dept. there are speed limits for all. My road is private and there are no limits for passenger traffic.

Ice is starting to thin out quite a bit.
This was shot today. Plane is at the North end of the lake Looking South.
2 big sheets of ice hugging the West side of the main basin and a sheet of rotten ice in my bay @ the North end of the lake.
If you look on the right side of the North bay just NE of the little lake on the point you'll see a little white dot.
That's my cabin!!!!   ;D

Great photo, Dave.

That point (of land) appears as sort of a turkeys head, the eye (lake), elongated with your cabin, the dot below the middle of the eye.

How close is that? Though weird, ha.

Beautiful areal shot Dave..   Lots of water up there...   But ya know what? I'm enjoying the little warmer weather now and been in the boat since end of April...  I don't miss the ice right now....  Hope you can get to the cabin soon so you can post some photos.... ;)

It's good to be near town.
I get good cell and internet service @ the cabin.
Easy to get to town for supplies.
Close enough if help is needed.

Got out to the cabin for the weekend.
Didn't get a lot done but I'm ready to do the roofing now.
Was rainy and windy on Saturday so I did some screen work along the eves to keep the skitters and birds out of the cabin.
Got my new cabin toy assembled too.
But mostly I slept. :)

Sunday was nice and sunny so I got the material lift all hooked up and set up the ladder.
Then I loaded up the boat and went to play.
Went 2/5 and had fun playing with the new sonar units. Spent most of the time recording contours and have my bay almost 1/2 mapped now.

Just weekends mostly this year.
Got 8 days off the first week of July though.
The rest of my vacation time is going to be spent on vacation this year.
I figure I deserve a real vacation since I haven't had one since March 2014.
Been spending all my vacation time working on the cabin.

Not this year, gonna go visit my camper in Alaska and go rip some lips!!!!
   ;D
Got a month off starting the second week of September.

Got some roofing on this weekend. Took a lot longer than I thought it would. My back is killing me this year and I could only work on the steep roof for 15 minutes at a time before having to take a break.   :'(
Was hoping to have the North facing roof finished by now. But I only got it 1/2 done.
Vacation starts after work on Thursday and I'll be at the cabin for 10 days straight. Hope to have the roof done and a bunch of siding on by the time it's over.

Crappy pic from the lake. Need to get one in the AM when the sun's in the right spot.

I'm sorry to hear about your back. Is it something that will get better, or is it something you're going to have to live with?? What the heck happened??

It gets worse as each year goes by.
Have to deal with it. Haven't had an xray in a couple of years. Might be time for an update.
All started when I was a passenger in my girlfriend's parents car when I was 16 and we got rear ended.
Was no issue at the time but started to have issues in my 20's. 4 or 5 years ago I dummied it again when I hopped off the tailgate of my buddies pickup in Alaska and landed stiff legged. By lower spine took the whole force of the landing. Was over a year before the sciatica and numbness left my legs. Still have issues from time to time.
I think the wear from hauling 22,000#'s of materials this spring tweaked things a bit.

WOW!!  :o Do you wear a back brace when you are doing all of that hauling and lifting?? It doesn't help that you are doing most, if not all of the work yourself!! 11 tons of material just might have tweaked your back a tad!!! ::) Thanks for the explanation!!

Dave.... I'm sorry to hear about your back, but it seems to be a common thing especially as you get older. I have a
lower back problem as well and went through some Physical therapy and the exercises helped before I do any prolonged
heavy work I do the exercises and it seems to help, one doctor told me that I should do them everyday no matter what!
I hope you the best! The roof looks great!

Looks good Drifter keep a watch on your back and get some help if needed to complete roof. I'm sure you take great pride in what you have accomplished so far you want to be in reasonably good health to enjoy the finished project.
