Hey Drifter, not sure if you decided on a roof underlayment but the self adhesive ones are great for metal roofs, here's one:
http://residential.henry.com/fileadmin/pdf/literature/LIT-BR-298-HE-UNDERLAYMENTS-ENG-040811-LORES.pdf

Got my underlayment already Bowski.
Not sure of the brand but is a breathable synthetic.
And of course ice & water dam for the eves. ;)

Drifter - If you have enough ice and water shield. Make sure to put it on the rake's of your roof too. Really helps seal the edges from wind driven rain and snow. Oh and don't forget to put it around any and all roof openings-vents stacks etc. Over kill maybe. But better to do it once than have any leaks. This is what most around here use.  https://gcpat.com/construction/en-us/residential-building-materials/Grace-Ice-and-Water-Shield. My nephew is a union roofer. He does it on all his jobs down here in Chicagoland.

Drifter

Is the header between the posts going to be heavy enough to carry the snow load on the porch roof. Down here we can use a regular 2x4 header over a 4 foot span on a supporting wall. That span appears to be 8 feet. You ill probably get a heavier load on the roofs o the side away from the lake due to snow being blown over the peak by the wind coming off the lake.

It's actually twin 2x4's with a cut down 2x8 on top of it.
Also still have to put in my 4x4 braces like under the deck.
We don't get very much snow here compared to further East and South.
Our whole winters snow acc. is about 3 feet and it's super dry.
It's like shovelling those styrofoam balls that are 1/8" diameter.

Last winter there was less than a foot of snow on the South side peak of the roof.
I have no doubts that it will hold up under anything we get here. ;)

Got 3 rolls of the stuff.
Should have plenty to do all.
No openings or vents yet though.
There will be a pluming vent stack and a 4" chimney for the pellet stove eventually.

Drifter I forget about the difference in the snow that you get that far north. We get so much that is wet and heavy is why I was concerned.

Down here I have seen a lot of vents and chimneys get flattened by snow sliding down metal roofs. When my brother was stationed in Fairbanks they Army put some special steel on the helo hangers that was supposed to  self unload if the snow got deep. When it self unloaded the steel came off a couple of the roofs along with the snow leaving every thing sitting out in the open.

Happened to the vent stack on my landlords shop this past spring.
The roofers didn't put any snow stops in above the stack and it was right down by the eve.
Got ripped right off!!!!   ;D

Got the basement doors finished. A little annoying that the last can of paint must have come from a different batch and is a slightly lighter shade. OH well, it's all good. :)

The snow slide got the hoods of three cars the first winter of a new building at one of our hardware stores. Another architect with no brains. The building should have had a shingled roof that was built to with stand the snow load instead of relying on the steel roof to dump the load.

The company I worked 4 years for were known for that kind of screw ups. Guess who got sent out to fix other crews screw ups?

The glass shop next door to me has the same thing happen every year.
I always tell him when the snow is going to do it's spring slde (usually within a day or two of it happening) but they still park their work vehicles there. I guess it's just habit. This year two of the vehicles got it pretty good. The pickups hood got smashed in nicely.
To make things worse the eve is about 20' off the ground.

Here's another good one.
They just finished building a woman's shelter across the road at work.
They had snow stops on all panels, but................... ...............
They didn't screw them on, I think they used caulk of something.
Every single one was on the ground this spring.
I got a bunch for my cabin!!!!!
  ;D

Congratulations Drifter one more thing to cross of the to do list. I'm assuming all the windows used have a high thermal rating so you can enjoy the view without loosing to much heat through the windows in the winter.

Good going on the windows!! I don't know if this has been addressed, but has there been any consideration given to placing solar panels on the roof or as a separate array?? I can imagine that it could get quite pricey up there, but you do get all of that sun during the summer, but so little during the winter. Just curious...............

Yes, there will be an array of 6 panels on the roof eventually.
I currently have some panels I will be using temporarily as they are older and much smaller then the new ones I will eventually get.

Thank you for the reply on your windows Drifter. How efficient do you think the solar panels will be during the Winter months. Assuming you will have a back up generator system for use during extended periods of foul weather or when the panels are snow covered. Good work on the roofing underlay .

Usually you have to run the generator a few hours a day during the winter due to the short winter days.
During the long days from spring to fall though the generator will not be needed at all.

I imagine that you will use a bank of batteries and let the generator charge them, instead of taking a/c from the generator, right???

Will you use an inverter/converter or run everything 12 volts?? I would think it could be hard to find everything to run off of 12 volts! But I imagine you could run both ac and dc in the cabin.

The battery bank will be 24 volts and will run through a 3,500 watt inverter.

3,500 watts will handle everything that you need running at the same time?? Lights for the stripper pole, etc..... ;)2
