End of the year in The Burg
« on: Mar 14, 2016, 08:09 AM »
Bamb308 and I headed for The Burg early Thursday morning. Planned to put out cusk traps but a major fog bank settled in and the forecast was calling for heavy rain. I didn't want to head out on the big lake and get twisted around and spend the night out there so we decided not to put them out. Went to the camp and meet up with the crew Johnbalaya (he makes an awesome Jambalaya), Lurch (looks like him) and FoodHog (eats everything in sight). Went to The Rub and met Sweet Lou there who didn't put his cusk traps out either because of the weather. Back to camp after dinner to get ready for Friday. Poured Kats and Dogs at night.

Headed out in freezing rain but it cleared up as the day went on. Had a real good morning bite but it stopped around noon and that was it. A couple flags the rest of the day. We rotate flags to see who gets them. Wind flags don't count. Seems to be the fair way to do it and get everyone involved. Bamb308 kicked our butts. PB best Bow 2.8 lb., 20 " bow and a few others. Some pics from Friday.

Bamb308 with her PB Bow.

Another nice bow.

Got back to camp to find Sweet Lou and Howard sitting in his truck in the driveway. He was very depressed over a skunk but after an hour of being "Velvetized" he was a new man. Early night for everyone.

Saw Lou and Howard sledding across First at 5:30 just before we left. Saturday the wind was brutal and we were right in it. Never let up the whole day and I think I lost 3 layers of skin. Luckily it wasn't too cold. Like the day before we had a good morning bite and things shutoff around 11:00. Left around 4:00 the wind beat us.

FoodHog with a bow.

Johnbalaya with a bow.

Got back to camp and John made his Jambalaya and it was the history channel for us.

Broke camp Sunday morning. Thanked Lurch  for the use of his place.

Saw this major ice jam on the CT River in Groveton on the way home. Thought I would share it.

This is all ice no water.

The Fat Lady is singing for me on the 2015/2016 Ice Fishing Season.

On to MFF and hopefully some early"Eye" fishing. Good luck to everyone.

great report Denny...as I always say...it's not how you start. It's how you finish. You and your group finished strong....Most of us closed the season last week.. but all of us know when one season ends.... another one begins!

I've been in Pittsburg for 8 weekends straight- the weekend you go and fish and I stay home. Dammit! Looks like you enjoyed the best of it!

Thanks everyone it was a good trip up there. March saved my ice fishing season I had two good weekends to bring the grade up. I felt sorry for you guys fishing the bigger lakes and guys with hardsides you got screwed this year. Mine wasn't too bad because I am a walker and fish smaller ponds/lakes which froze up pretty good. Parking was easy, didn't have to deal with pulling gear over snow banks and once I got on the ice it was fairly easy walking and dragging a sled. Good luck everyone on the softwater.

I just realized I just became a Maniac!!! 1,000 post!! My wife thinks I already am.

Nice Bows for an end of what is probably one of the shortest seasons in awhile. Good while it lasted.

Where in NE CT are you? Had some good fishing and hunting when I grew up down there.
