Cold water safety
« on: Mar 12, 2016, 05:32 PM »
Guys,

I see lots of interest in people hitting the water in kayaks and canoes. While the air temps have been unseasonably warm, the water remains 35 degrees. At that temperature, you can die in minutes. Early spring is always the most dangerous time. Please remember the most important rules:

1. Always WEAR your PFD (life jacket). Having it in or on the boat is not good enough for extreme cold water.

2. Dress or immersion! That means wearing a drysuit or wetsuit. The lakes can get very rough, very fast. You need to be prepared to be in the water.

Wish we could convince people to stay the He** off the ice. The season is done.
May the fish be with you.
