Lake Winnipeg

Thinking about going fishing on lake Winnipeg this weekend but don't really have any knowledge of where to fish or what to use looking to have the family out and have some fun! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Assuming you are going to fish walleye/greenbacks?   I would say there isn't one place to fish.   Hotspots and honeyholes change daily depending on where the fish are.    Maybe start about 3-4 miles out from where the red comes into the lake and drill some holes and go from there.    A lot of guys use rattle and blade baits, but i've caught plenty on old stand by lures as well, like jigs, and buckshots, etc...

Shallow early, move deeper, then move back shallow. Notice the key word? Move! If your not getting consistent action in a half hour, move. 1/2 mile or so. Nice weather this weekend, so run and gun. Watch your electronics.

Run and gun is the best strategy. Moves can mean only 100 yards. Use electronics to determine if the fish are around. Don't settle on the first spot because you made a bunch of holes and set up a tent. Do that AFTER you find the fish. Good luck.

Going out tomorrow morning thanks for all the help! Just wondering if anyone knows if the auger extension will be needed?

Tight lines and good luck.
