Budget buy: Vexilar FL-8
« on: Feb 23, 2016, 08:53 PM »
Found a FL-8SE for $264 brand new at my door. Really shouldn't spend that, buuuut after using a buddys flasher I'm thinking I'm about it. I do fine in traps, but the jigging will pass the time. Experience? Thoughts/concerns

I just got a Marcum VX-1 a few weeks ago. It has been a complete game changer for me. It has improved my jigging skills tremendously, because I know the fish are there, and have the opportunity to see what works and what doesn't. You don't have to wonder if what your trying isn't working because they aren't there. It's also a blast when you see a really aggressive fish flying towards your lure and you're just waiting and ready for it.

I say go for it! I don't think you can go wrong with the Vexilar.

Do it.  It will change the way you fish.  You will never fish without a flasher again.

I think one of the most important feature for any fish finder is bottom zoom and the FL-8 doesn't have it.  Other than that, its a fine starter unit.

I have used an Fl-8 for the past 15 years.  Have used it shallow to over 100ft jigging whitefish.  Never have had an issue with my fl-8. It's the best entry level flasher on the market

At that price you can't go wrong. Mine still working like new after 18 full seasons of heavy use.

I own the same Vex! You can most definite sell that unit if you ever upgrade and get your money out of it. Great buy!

Buddy of mine just got into ice fishing this year, he has 2 fl8s and a bird 35, the bird stays home,  both of these flashers are awesome, IMO the 35 is by far the best bang for your $
