Headed to Mash and stopped at JT'S and got some shiners. They have plenty of bait now. Got on the ice by 3 pm. Meet up with 6 friends who got there hours earlier. They were set up right in the narrows close to the launch so I joined them. Not my first choice but plenty of safe ice close in. Didn't check farther out but we had 7" of ice anyways. The fishing was slow which isn't a surprise there. Not many flags but between 7 of us we managed some fish. They caught 4 trout and 1 YP. Three rainbows on power bait near the bottom and 1 brown on shiner. I only got 2 flags but each one yielded a keeper walleye. I got them from the same hole about a half hour apart 8:30-9:00 in 11' of water. My first walleye of the year. Not a bad day we had fun. Four of my friends were still there when I left at 1:30 am. They plan on staying all night and into tomorrow.If you go out be safe and check the ice often.

Nice fishing with you and good report. Nothing much after you left. One flag but it got off. Hope to get out out there with you guys again some time.

Nice to meet you too. I had fun. How long did you guys end up staying? My son and I are heading back up there tomorrow. Hopefully we can find Waldo up at the north end. We should be able to get on our spot.

lv Mash, gd job on the keepers, tough place to fish but can be very very rewarding! keep at it.

I go to beach when ice is good where I like to fish. Really prefer Gardners but doesn't look good this year. Leaves me mashapaug , but hate the drive.

I really wanted to fish tonight at Mash but the weather doesn't look to good for the drive home so I'll wait another day or two.

Watch out for the springs if u plan on walking across that lake. It don't matter if it's cold for month's, u can get swallowed, it's happened to me and my dad. You'll have 8 inches of ice then drop to under 2 inches over springs. There's about 10 springs, but 3 are big. I'll walk some crazy ice but haven't walked across yet, going to spend few hour tomorrow finding good ice to cross. With this cold I'm sure there's safe ice to cross, help I know where springs are.

Bug, I'm considering it. I work till 5 in Hartford and with traffic, I probably wouldn't get there until between 6:30 and 7. How late do you usually stay into the evening?

Icicle1 use flourocarbon for the leader, give yourself a good amount of leader and I like using 6 or 8lb. And for hook I like using size 6 hooks, if you want to go bigger you can use size 4 but 6 will get the job done. I definitely wouldn't use anything but flourocarbon for leader, those fish can be spooky.

Plenty of ice in cove , less as you go out towards end of cove. Fish didn't cooperate, not a flag between 4 guys. Still a good night.
